Vijay Mallya to buy Cine Blitz magazine

Vijay MallyaIndian liquor baron Vijay Mallya, chairman of the country's largest alcoholic drinks group, United Breweries, said on Tuesday he has acquired a 51 percent shareholding in popular film magazine Cine Blitz.

He has agreed to buy the remaining stake by the end of October.

In a statement, Mallya said the acquisition was made through his private investment company Pharma Trading Company Pvt Ltd.

Cine Blitz's current owner, Rita Mehta, will continue as editor-in-chief of the magazine.

Mallya has other private media investments overseas including five weekly newspapers in the United States and the Millionaire Magazine group, which publishes 12 editions in 20 countries.

His UB group owns a 33 per cent stake in the Asian Age newspaper.
