A-I MD Mascarenhas's suspension revoked

A day after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) exonerated Air India Managing Director Michael P Mascarenhas of charges of corruption and irregularities, the government on Wednesday revoked the suspension order against him but has not given him any extension.

Official sources said Mascarenhas, who was suspended in May this year, could join duty but he would be retiring as per schedule on November 30.

According to a report from Bombay, he may take charge on Thursday.

The CBI exonerated Mascarenhas maintaining that there was no malafide intention on his part in increasing the Productivity Linked Incentive (PLI) of a London-based General Sales Agent (GSA) from five to seven per cent.

However, there was no official word about the other three officials of the international flag carrier of the country, suspended along with Mascarenhas.

The CBI had said that 'such action as the civil aviation ministry may deem fit' could be taken against the suspended Regional Director in London P K Sinha, Commercial Director H K Oberoi and his deputy K Behari for failing to make a 'correct mathematical calculation of flight reduction from London'.
