Left parties demand probe into Enron projectSwati Kulkarni in Bombay The Left Front parties supporting the ruling Democratic Front government, led by Congress and Nationalist Congress Party, in Maharashtra has decided to give a letter to the Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh urging him to immediately set up a commission of inquiry to probe the controversial Enron power project. Speaking to newsmen in Bombay on Tuesday, senior Peasants and Workers Party leader and DF convenor N D Patil stated that a commission of inquiry will reveal the truth buried in the papers kept secret until now by Enron. He said the issue of alleged lapses committed in the past by all those associated with the power project must come to light. Patil said that the Godbole committee in its review report had directed the government to make all documents relating to the power project public by June 10. Patil said that if the power project were to be scrapped then the state would not have to pay any liquidation charges. The PWP leader stated that the judicial probe must also extend to other independent power projects like that of Reliance (Patalganga) and Ispat (Bhadravati). The PWP leader stated that the judicial probe is a must to fix the blame on all those responsible for putting the Maharashtra State Electricity Board and the state in such deep financial crisis.
