Mitsubishi's IT arm to outsource from WiproFakir Chand in Bangalore Wipro Technologies, the Bangalore-based global IT major, has been selected by Mitsubishi Corporation's business and IT consulting company, IT Frontier Corp, as preferred partner for outsourcing its requirements in the areas of Web and Internet-related technologies. Wipro will build a dedicated offsite development centre in Bangalore for the Japan-based IT Frontier, and its consultants will work with the partner's team in Tokyo. According to Wipro Japan KK representative director Shreedhara Shetty, the partnership with IT Frontier will enable Mitsubishi to focus on e-business transformation of its customers. "The focus will be on providing time-to-market advantage to IT Frontier with Wipro's capability in emerging technologies and project management skills," Shetty said in Bangalore on Tuesday. Wipro started its relationship with Mitsubishi two years ago for providing services to its group companies worldwide. Having established its presence in Japan since its foray into Far East in 1995, Wipro generates around 8 per cent of its global software exports from Japan, covering both enterprise applications as well as technology services. To overcome language and cultural barriers in executing business in Japan, Wipro has invested substantially in Japanese training programs, and about 100 engineers have been trained in the language so far. The projects undertaken by Wipro in Japan cover areas in Internet technologies, e-commerce, mobile commerce, embedded systems, ASIC design and telecom applications, with the focus industries for enterprise applications being finance, manufacturing, telecom and technology. Wipro's long-term commitment to the Japanese market has resulted in setting up a subsidiary, Wipro Japan KK. Currently Wipro is partnering with over 35 Japanese companies to provide IT services. IT Frontier was formed in April last when five IT companies of Mitsubishi -- AST (Advanced Systems Technology, Inc.), IT Commerce, MOM (Mitsubishi Office Machinery), and MC Techno serve and Sirius joined together to form this new initiative. Its chairman is Yorihiko Kojima. |
