DPC, Godbole panel to meet again on June 30

Dabhol Power Company representatives, Godbole panel members and Maharashtra State Electricity Board officials met in Bombay on Tuesday to find out alternatives to solve the Enron imbroglio and decided to meet again on June 30.

"Apart from discussing the vexed issues, we are also trying to explore various alternatives," E A S Sarma, officiating chairman of the Godbole panel, told reporters after the meeting.

He did not spell out what 'alternatives' were discussed.

"Dialogues are a continuing process and the discussions were confined to the terms of reference of the Godbole committee," Sarma added.

Godbole, a former bureaucrat and chairman of the renegotiation panel, was not present during the meeting.

Referring to a query on resuming power offtake from DPC, MSEB chairman Vinay Bansal said: "We are governed by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission order which says that the board will have to buy 'costly' power as a last alternative."

Those present at the meeting were Bansal, V M Lal (Maharashtra power secretary), A V Gokak (central government's representative), Krishna Rao (accounts member), P Paunikar (technical director), Deepak Parekh, Sudhir Srivastava (both panel members) and Vidyadhar Kanade (MSEB secretary).

K Wade Cline (DPC managing director), Mohan Gurunath (DPC chief financial officer) and Mukesh Tyagi (DPC vice-president) were also present during the meeting.
