Economic reforms irreversible, says George

Samata Party president and former defence minister George Fernandes said on Tuesday that the country's economic reforms were irreversible as they were based on an international agenda and not on one party's programme.

Addressing party workers in Bombay at the first state convention, Fernandes stressed that the 7-year-old Samata Party has to work cautiously in this framework, taking into consideration the interests of the nation in the international scenario.

"We have to change our ways of reaching the goal to keep pace with changing times. We will have to chart out a well-planned future course of action with proper evaluation ," he said.

He said that party workers should work out different methodologies to strengthen the labour class of the country.

"So far, workers' agitations have resulted only in individual benefits. It is time for the Samata Party to work for the entire nation's benefits," he said.
