Domino's denies serving ham toppings on veg pizza

Charged with putting ham in the toppings of its vegetable pizza, international food chain Domino's has denied such a practice on its part and assured that its products undergo a series of checks at various levels to avoid mixing of vegetarian and non-vegetarian foodstuff.

In a statement in Bombay on Wednesday, Ashwani Arora, head (operations) of Domino's Pizza India Limited, said the company personnel used separate cutters to slice vegetarian and non-vegetarian pizza and, ''the delivery person again verifies the toppings with the order printed before leaving for delivery.''

He was reacting to a complaint lodged by Nidhi Bhasin, a resident of suburban Andheri in north-west Bombay, that ham was found in the topping of a vegetable pizza that was ordered by her recently.

She has filed a complaint at the Oshiwara police station here against the Domino's saying that her ''religious sentiments are hurt'' because of presence of ham in a vegetable pizza' she ordered.

Arora said, ''there are various levels at which the product is checked against any unwanted material becoming a part of the final product. Hence the possibility of any such occurrence is highly unlikely.''

He also assured customers that Domino's is highly conscious and sensitive about all religions and communities and stands committed to serve all consumers to the best of its abilities.
