99,425 bank employees opt for VRS

As many as 99,425 employees opted for the Voluntary Retirement Scheme offered by the public sector banks and a sum of Rs 100.73 billion was given as package for the employees, special secretary banking, Devi Dayal, said in New Delhi on Friday.

After a meeting of Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha with public sector bank chiefs, Dayal told reporters that employees included officers, clerical staff and 4th class employees.

He said while 20 per cent of the amount has been provided during the last financial year, the rest was amortised for a period of five years.

Sinha, during his meeting, asked the bank chiefs to provide adequate staff at all branches to ensure that all services were provided smoothly following the VRS, Dayal said.
