HC issues contempt notice to Netware InfosysThe Delhi high court on Thursday issued contempt notice to Reliance-owned Netware Infosys for alleged violation of its order, instructing the company not to carry out digging for laying of telephone cables in the capital. Seeking reply from Netware Infosys by July 30, Justice Vijender Jain issued the notice following an application moved by Mahanagar Telephone Nigam alleging that despite the court's stay order of June 2, the company was going ahead with digging the tranches and pits for laying of cables in the city. The stay was granted by the court after MTNL had alleged that Netware Infosys and Bharti Telenet had damaged its cables at various places rendering over 8,000 phones non-functional. The court also continued the interim stay on digging of trenches by the company till July 25. MTNL alleged that Netware Infosys "has wilfully, deliberately and intentionally violated the order of this court by continuing to dig trenches and pits." The court, however, allowed MTNL, Netware Infosys and Bharti to approach Delhi Lt Governor to seek permission for digging the pits for connecting the missing cable links. Netware Infosys counsel J M Sabharwal told the court that it had to cover 80 Kms for laying the cables out of the 480 kms and the blanket ban had hampered its work. Municipal Corporation of Delhi and New Delhi Municipal Council had imposed ban on all types of digging, except for repair works, during the monsoon. Additional Solicitor General Mukul Rohtagi and R K Sanghi appearing for MTNL and Bharti's counsel Rajiv Nayar also sought similar relief from the court.
