Four Indian companies among Forbes International 500

Four Indian companies - three public sector undertakings and one private group - have entered the list of 'Forbes International 500 Companies'.

The three public sector companies are Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and State Bank of India group while Reliance Industries Limited is the only private sector company to qualify from India.

IOC is ranked 112 with a revenue of $ 22.28 billion while BPCL with a revenue of $ 9.12 billion is ranked 302 and SBI with a revenue of $ 6.57 billion is at 401, according to Forbes, a leading US magazine. Reliance with a revenue of $ 5,566 million is at 469.

'Forbes International 500 Companies' is an exhaustive list ranked according to country, industry, revenue or enterprise value. The list has sales of $ 9.2 trillion.

Other vital statistics like market performance, valuation and economic indicators are also available for those countries where five or more of these corporate giants are headquartered.

The term 'international companies' denotes the biggest foreign companies (outside the US) by revenues. In order to qualify for this year's 'Forbes International 500 Companies', companies had to have at least $ 5.2 billion in revenue, be incorporated outside the US and be publicly traded as on May 31, 2001.

Reliance Industries recorded the highest growth in revenues terms, the survey said. It registered a growth of 19.52 per cent or $ 909 million during the year. The company clocked revenues of $ 5,566 million dollars against $ 4,657 million recorded during the previous year.

The second highest growth was registered by BPCL. BPCL increased its revenues during the year by 19.08 per cent.

Similarly, State Bank of India group also recorded a growth of 11.15 per cent or $ 659 million to register revenues of $ 6,571 million.

While IOC increased its revenue during the year by 2.63 per cent or $ 571 million to $ 22.28 million. Forbes magazine has ranked German car-manufacturer Daimler-Chrysler, the makers of famous Mercedes Benz Car, at Number 1 position with Revenues of $ 149.6 billion.
