Crucial DF panel meet on Enron on Wednesday

The crucial meeting of the co-ordination committee of the ruling Democratic Front in Maharashtra would be held in Bombay on Wednesday to deliberate on the Front's stance on the controversial Enron-promoted Dabhol Power Company project.

"The meeting will be held at the official Sahyadri Guest House at Malabar Hill on Wednesday evening," sources said.

Barring the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party, all other constituents of the DF are clamouring for the institution of a judicial inquiry into all the aspects of the agreement signed with US energy giant Enron.

NCP has clarified its stance saying it would support a judicial probe into the matter if the Cabinet unanimously takes a decision in this regard.

However, the Congress is yet to make public its position over the demand for a judicial inquiry.

The smaller constituents like Peasants' and Workers' Party, Janata Dal-Secular, CPI, CPM and Samajwadi Party have already threatened to withdraw from the government if their demand for a judicial probe is turned down.
