Sumantra Ghoshal is founding dean of Indian School of Business

Management guru Sumantra Ghoshal has been appointed founding dean of the Indian School of Business, the new management institute being started in Hyderabad.

Ghoshal, who is the Robert P Bauman professor of Strategic Leadership at London Business School, will be working with the ISB on a part-time basis.

Deepak Jain of Northwestern University will be the new institute's executive dean.

Starting next year ISB will take 130 MBA students from India and abroad. The institute will also offer a wide range of executive development programmes and will attempt to create extensive research facilities.

The institute aims to become India's leading business school and it has powerful corporate backers, including McKinsey and Co, the world's leading consultancy firm. Rajat Gupta, managing director, McKinsey and Co will be chairman of the ISB's governing board. Says Gupta: "ISB is fortunate to have forged this new partnership with London Business School and one of its outstanding faculty members."

ISB will also have links with top management institutions like Northwestern in the US and London Business School. Another corporate backer is Rahul Bajaj of Bajaj Auto.

Ghoshal, who is already a globetrotting superstar in the world of management, is the author of the management classic Managing Across Borders.

He has taught at London Business School and Insead in France. The new management school is certain to be a top draw for India's brightest and best students.
