INDO-PAK SUMMIT
India, Pakistan trip on contentious issues
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and President Pervez Musharraf abandoned moves to sign a joint declaration after the two sides failed to agree on the phraseology, specially over Kashmir and cross border terrorism.

A single phrase brought the house down
Pakistani journalists claimed the talks broke down over the use of the term 'cross-border' to qualify the terrorism that the two leaders were to tackle in future meetings.

US officials hopeful despite summit failure
They insisted that an important achievement of the talks was the setting in motion of a process which hopefully would lead to eventual settlement of differences peacefully.

Musharraf/VajpayeeSummit:
'It's a Lose-lose Situation'

Pakistan blames India for failure of talks
'President Pervez Musharraf waited for the Indian response for signing the agreement. Since it was not there, the president has decided to leave,' said government spokesman Ashfaq Ahmed Gondal.

'Cross-border terrorism must stop'
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in his opening remarks at the beginning of the Agra Summit, said India was willing to address all issues provided cross-border terrorism came to an end.

No CBMs till Kashmir's resolved: Pak
"Until the problem of Kashmir is solved, there is no point in talking of confidence building measures, economic cooperation and other issues," Musharraf told editors of Indian media organisations in Agra.

Menu, not summit, grips UK media
While most British papers tucked the summit into their inside pages, the menu at the summit, including crushed pearl, coral and mica among exotic ingredients served at the Musharraf-Vajpayee lunch had better display, with The Times putting it on the front page.
