Trans THE INDO-PAK SUMMIT
India, Pak trip on contentious issues
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and President Pervez Musharraf abandoned moves to sign a joint declaration after the two sides failed to agree on the phraseology, specially over Kashmir and cross border terrorism.

A single phrase brought the house down
Pakistani journalists claimed the talks broke down over the use of the term 'cross-border' to qualify the terrorism that the two leaders were to tackle in future meetings.

Musharraf lands in Islamabad
Musharraf's spokesman Major General Rashid Qureshi said that Musharraf will hold a press conference on Tuesday.

Pakistan blames India for failure of talks
'President Pervez Musharraf waited for the Indian response for signing the agreement. Since it was not there, the president has decided to leave,' said government spokesman Ashfaq Ahmed Gondal.

A public relations disaster for India
The general opinion is that while the media in Pakistan would concentrate on the perceived Indian rigidity on the Kashmir issue, the Vajpayee government would be left in the lurch, chiefly on account its reluctance to open channels with the Indian media.

Vajpayee seeks release of PoWs, Musharraf promises action
Vajpayee told Musharraf that the PoWs issue is a human problem and urged purposeful action to end the agony of the families of the soldiers.

Musharraf blindsides Vajpayee with media blitz
Asked if he was willing to give a commitment on Pakistan not encouraging violence in Kashmir, Musharraf said: "We are not encouraging violence there. It is an indigenous freedom struggle."

10 protesters held outside Musharraf's hotel
Among them was Vipul Purohit, the 30-year-old son of Flight Lieutenant Manohar Purohit who is among the 54 who went missing during the last war with Pakistan.

Kashmir omission not deliberate: Sushma
By way of explanation, Swaraj said: "I was commenting on the positive aspects of the talks. But they thought that I had deliberately omitted all reference to Jammu and Kashmir, which was never my intention."

No CBMs till Kashmir is solved: Musharraf
Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf insisted this morning that Kashmir is the central issue between India and Pakistan, but added that he was willing to discuss it in tandem with other issues.

No Fault Of Mine
'Blaming Pakistan for our ills is now profoundly part of our ideas of who we are as a nation. As patriotic Indians, we must believe the worst about Pakistan, hate its citizens. Just as much, no doubt, as patriotic Pakistanis are asked to hate India and Indians. Somewhere in there is the true Indian tragedy of Kashmir,' says Dilip D'Souza.
