Netmonitor ranks 123 India.com and Satyamonline in third and fourth position, respectively

CLOSE on the heels of the Gartner survey on Indian Internet surfers which was released yesterday is yet another one, this time from the premier Indian research agency ORG-Marg.

According to Cyber ORG-Marg.com's 'Netmonitor' survey on the most popular Websites, Yahoo and Rediff are the top two Websites accesses by Internet using businessman and executives in India.

They are followed by 123 India.com and Satyamonline at number three and four positions. The survey was conducted among 24,848 individuals belonging to the ''upper socio-economic group'' in eight major metros during May and June 2000.

Only seven per cent of all Internet using businessmen have conducted any kind of B2B e-commerce transaction according to the study. 11 per cent said that they plan to conduct business over the Net in the next year.

41 per cent of all executives had started accessing the Net as recently as a year ago. 44 per cent of the businessmen interviewed started accessing the Net in the past year.

Executives were found to surf the Net more frequently than businessmen. 86 per cent of the executives accessed the Net from the office for official communication and to locate work-related information (78 per cent).

Even when the net was accessed from home the work-related element figured as a priority.

Fifteen per cent of all Net using businessmen said that they have a Website for business. 17 per cent said that they intended to develop one within a year. Over 60 per cent of both executives and businessmen felt that the Internet was a ''very promising medium for e-commerce'' .Low awareness (cited by 38 per cent of businessmen) and poor infrastructure (23 per cent of businessmen) were cited as likely barriers for the development of e-commerce.
