Rediff tops in hits from Mumbai: IDC

Rediff was the most frequently visited website in Mumbai city, the country's largest
Internet market, ahead of both International as well Indian websites.
About 22 percent of the Internet households in Mumbai mentioned Rediff as the
most frequently visited website, followed by Yahoo at 15 percent Both Hotmail and
MTV were next, indicated by 12 percent, followed by ESPN with five percent.
Rediff was also the leader in Hyderabad with 16 percent of Internet households
indicating it as the most frequently visited website against six percent for Hotmail and
3 percent for Yahoo.
At a national level, even though Yahoo emerged as the 'most frequently visited
website', Rediff was the only Indian portal that emerged amongst the top five 'most
frequently visited website' across all Internet households, emerging at the third
position.
These results were part of a large survey recently carried out by IDC India. Titled
'Understanding Internet Usage Behaviour - Present and future,' the study aimed to
capture the Internet usage trends, habits and practices of users and to explore the
non-users for not adopting the medium. It was conducted across homes and
establishments wherein a total of 4,122 respondents across 13 cities in the country
were contacted. The sample consisted of both users as well as non-users of the
Internet.
