Many of us seem to think that the most searched-for train in India is the Rajdhani Express. Interestingly, it isn't. As a matter of fact the elite train doesn't even appear in the top ten searched-for trains on the Internet in India.
This data was analysed by RailYatri.in from more than 1 crore train search records from online passenger queries to understand the behavioural patterns of train searches in India.
Here are the top ten most searched for trains in India on the Internet.
Top 10: Most searched trains in India
At number ten is Punjab Mail 12137, the superfast train that runs between Mumbai CST and Firozpur Cantt.
The Punjab Mail has 54 halts and crosses over 263 intermediate stations in its journey.
Its estimated travel time is 35 hours having departed from Mumbai CST at 19.40 hours on Day 1 and reaches its destination at 05.40 on Day 3.
It runs at an average speed of 56 kmph.

The Amritsar-Dadar Express is the ninth most searched for train on the Internet in India.
It takes over 43.5 hours to travel a distance of 2,035 km between Amritsar Junction and Dadar in Mumbai.
Travelling at an average speed of over 46 kmph, it has 88 halts and crosses 270 intermediate stations.

At number 8 is the 22405 Garib Rath that runs between Bhagalpur and Delhi Anand Vihar Terminal.
With a scheduled run-time of 18 hours and 55 mins, this Garib Rath has 17 halts and crosses 202 intermediate stations covering a distance of 1,209 km at an average speed of 63 kmph.
The 22406 Garib Rath that runs between Delhi Anand Vihar Terminal and Bhagalpur comes at number 7.

The Purshottam Express that runs between New Delhi and Puri has been one of the oldest and the most popular train on the route. In spite of the introduction of some of the fastest trains such as the Rajdhani and Sampark Kranti, the Purshottam Express still manages to run full house 365 days of the year.
It takes 31 hours to cover a distance of 1,869 km.
With 26 halts and 274 intermediate stations, the Purshottam Express, that is the sixth most searched-for train in India, runs at an average speed of about 60 kmph.

Utkal Express that connects Haridwar Junction and Puri is the fifth most searched for Indian train on the Internet.
At an average speed of 49 kmph, the Utkal Express covers a distance of 2,381 kms in a scheduled time of 48 hours and 35 minutes.
It has 70 halts and crosses 318 intermediate stations.
Top 10: Most searched trains in India
At number four is the Mangala Lakshadweep Express train. It is the second longest daily train running in India between Ernakulam Junction in Kochi and Delhi Hazrat Nizamuddin.
The scheduled duration for this epic journey is 50 hours and 25 minutes.
Running at an average speed of 54 kmph, the Mangala Lakshadweep Express covers 2,757 kms covers 332 intermediate stations and has all of 44 halts!

The 12138 Punjab Mail that runs between Firozpur Cantonment and Mumbai CST is the third most searched for train on the Internet in India.
As mentioned earlier, the train's Mumbai CST to Firozpur Cantonment route (12137) is the tenth most searched for in India.
Incidentally, it is the first train to achieve distinction of entering its 100th year on the Indian Railways broad gauge network.

The 12401/12402 Magadh Express that runs between New Delhi and Islampur in Bihar occupies the number 1 as well as number 2 spot in the most searched for trains on the Internet in India.
The train covers a distance of 1,064 km at an average speed of 54 kmph in a scheduled time of 19 hours and 35 minutes.
It has over 25 halts and crosses 174 intermediate stations.
