The village also finds a place in the myths of India. It is said to be where sage Agasti meditated for a year, surviving only on water and air. Legend has it that the gods were please with his devotion and blessed him with a stream from the river Ganga. The stream is now known as the River Pravara.

Munnar is located at the confluence of three rivers -- Madhurapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly and retains much of the old British charm. Seen here are miles and miles of tea plantations for which Munnar is best known.
