Best pics 2010: What is Independence?

Here are readers' best photographs from the past year!

We invited readers to share their unique, original photographs from this past year with us -- here's the next set of responses!

First up we have this image from Anurag Jain, who says, "I was on the road on August 15, 2010 in Bangalore. I saw these little girls selling flags and badges of India near MG Road. I watched them for a long time, working and making conversation with each other. I was happy that Independence Day brought some cheer to them by providing a few earnings. But I was also sad that after 60 years of Independence, we have to see our children like this. They will probably remember Independence Day only as a day when they can sell badges and flags."

With 2010 having drawn to a close, we're inviting you to send in your best photograph of last year. We'll be posting a few every day and readers will get to vote for each one. The 20 that land the maximum number of votes will then be compiled into a 'best of' list that will be published at the end of this month.

Next we have this one, also from Anwar Mulani, taken at Matheran, Maharashtra. "The house near the tracks was looking so beautiful in the mist after the rains," he muses.

And finally, we have this one from Niamat Ali Khan a PhD student from Belgium. "This is a picture of my friend Faizan in snow-covered Luxembourg on Christmas Day 2010," he says.
