Photographs: Prasun Sanyal
Here are readers' best photographs from the past year!
With 2010 drawing to a close, we invited readers to share their unique, original photographs from this past year with us -- here's the next set of responses!
First up we have this image from Prasun Sanyal of New Delhi, who explains, "I took this photograph during my visit to my village in West Bengal this December. It was raining all night and in the morning I was taking pictures of water drops on leaves and other things."
"Suddenly, I found a beautiful small leaf holds a beautiful drop of water. I went nearer and focused with my macro lens, which is when I saw two spiders below it -- they were mating. I have never seen spiders mating and I feel very lucky not only to have seen them, but to have captured them on camera. I was only able to capture one shot, though, as one of them ran away after that. "

Here is one from Arindam Goswami, who says, "This is a photo I clicked in London, at a place called Whitechapel. This sign is written in Bengali and it is a nai key dukan -- barber's shop. Translated, it says, 'Here you will get beautifully designed hairstyle in heavily discounted price -- five pounds.' In the reflected image you can see a Britisher wondering what this shop is all about...ha ha ha!"

Wild friends
Image: Wild friendsPhotographs: Sakthi Rajan S
Sakthi Rajan S of Coimbatore, TN, sent in this photograph, explaining, "The picture of this Indian gaur was shot near Anuvavi Temple in the Thadagam Reserve Forests (Coimbatore). It was in the evening hours and strangely, a crow was sitting on the gaur's head -- it looked as if both were wild friends. They looked very much relaxed and the gaur was looking at me as I clicked some shots of it."
