We start out with this idol made out of pencils

This 10-foot-tall Lord Ganesha has been made with pencils… not by any designer or any professional artist but by a group of about 25 people all using their field of expertise to create this work of art.

They sought help from local children who helped put together this masterpiece by sharpening a total of 32,334 pencils for about a month and a half.

The Shri Sai Darshan Mitra Mandal, as they call themselves, are a group of middle class professionals who have used their skills into making this idol.

Kamlesh Davda who is a carpenter by profession says he has done all the pencil cutting and used his skill to better this idol.

Manish D Chauhan, a civil contractor specialises in floor tile fitting has worked on the idol too and says that the four main people who have made this possible are Manish, Manoj and Bhavesh Peshavaria and Kamlesh.

They say that they has started work with 18,000 pencils and slowly the local school kids who came to see the work ended up getting the rest of the pencils from home and also helped in sharpening the pencils everyday for a month.

This group had made a Ganesh idol from toy cars last year and in 2011 they had made an idol using chocolates!
