Pehla Nasha: 'I was sweating with the AC running!'

Last updated on: February 9, 2011 18:42 IST
Rohit Das

It may all seem a little funny now and may mean nothing to you beyond a fond memory, but it's fun reminiscing all about your first love!

With Valentine's Day coming up, we invited readers to share stories of their first loves with us. Here is the next set of responses!

First up we have Rohit Das' tale:

They say relationships are made in heaven. I personally started believing this so-called myth when a guy like me, who used to keep a 10-foot distance from all girls is now madly in love with the most beautiful girl I have ever met.

I made a resolution during my college and school days never to entertain any girl for long, or else she would cast some vicious magic spell on me and I would end up failing the semester. After my successful completion of BE, I got addicted to Orkut and gTalk. This was the time I was destined to meet the love of my life. I was unaware of the fact that she was in my college for four years and shamefully accepted this truth during an online chat. Initially we had a general introduction and a few formalities, but gradually our conversations started increasing from one hour to ten per night! Our stint with gTalk literally made us nocturnal. I still can't remember what we used to talk about for so long, but I still remember the feeling.

In order to meet her, I started travelling for four hours every weekend, although my parents were under the impression that I had started taking my career seriously .We used to take long walks and long dinners in order to spend more time with each other. I started feeling for her what I hadn't felt for any other girl -- wanting to marrying her.

My heart would thump away, wanting me to hold her hand and say 'I love you', but my brain was compelling me to swallow the three golden words. I had to suffer this heart-brain fight for three more months, until the day I got to know that she had gone to watch a movie with another guy. That was it. I asked my brain to shut up and wrote a 1,500 letter SMS to her. I still remember how I was sweating, although the air conditioner was running. My friends thought I was dehydrated. I was terrified, but eagerly waiting for her answer. Seconds felt like hours and I don't remember when I ever gave so much importance to my mobile phone, except at this moment.

Each passing second was yelling at me that her call would never come and it was time for me to become Devdas II. I started feeling pain in my heart when suddenly my phone started ringing. My palms were shivering and my heart was about to jump out of my body. I saw it was her call. I answered and said "Hello," with no vocal effect. She said her parents would not accept our marriage. She said sorry.

I then cried and it was time to see the movie Pyaar Ke Side Effects. I shopped and had a heavy, delicious dinner but I guess my body, including my tongue, was on strike. I decided to call her and convince her that our parents would agree to our marriage. After a 'never say die' attitude for one and a half months, I finally got a 'yes' from her in reply. Due to God's grace, we are still a very happy and lovely couple.

'When D-day arrived, she turned up two hours late!'

Parimal Piyush and Bindu

Next we have Parimal Piyush's experience:

I met an angel (Bindu) on December 16, 2009 and its was like I was in heaven. The experience of meeting her was just out of this world; in fact, when she came and stood beside me and said hi, I was just dumbstruck -- she was so adorable! I can tell now that it was love at first sight, it was such a nice feeling.

In fact, I have even started writing short poems for her lately. Really, love will bring out all your hidden talent, its like ek ladka sudhar gaya. This Febraury 14 will be our first together.

I used to stay in Kanpur and she is the cousin of our neighbour back home. Since her family visited with them frequently, we knew each other, but never spoke.

I moved to Bangalore in 2002 to make something of my life. When I went back home for Diwali in 2008, one of my friends mentioned her. Then I remembered that yes, there was this girl I used to see. He also told me that Bindu was on a networking site and so I sent her a friend request. That's where it all started from. We exchanged numbers and talked through all of 2009. I was doing my CA internship in Bangalore at the time and couldn't get many holidays, but on December 9, I got lucky. So I made a plan to meet with her. Initially, she was very reluctant -- in fact, we fought with each other about it -- but she eventually agreed. Finally D-day arrived and she turned up two hours late. It was fun waiting for her, though and we spent four hours together. Two days later, I proposed to her and she accepted.

Now it's been a year and we are both falling in love again and again with each other, everyday. It's like every day is Valentine's for us. She is my first and last love and I am writing this to tell her -- 'I LOVE YOU'.

'She was even ready to run away from home to be with me, but I stopped her'

Vivek Lilha

And here is Vivek Lilha's story:

I am from a middle class family and pretty much a reserved person --I don't trust too many people.

In 2007, I was working in an insurance company at the frontline post when I met a girl on a social network website. She was from Kolkata and she was comfortable chatting with me as one of her best friends, also a friend of mine, had shifted to my city. As time passed we chatted online often and gradually exchanged numbers, talking over the phone.

We met for the first time at City Centre, as I had to visit Kolkata to attend the marriage of a friend's sister. We talked for hours and we felt like we had always known each other. She did not want to go back home and I didn't want to let her go either, but it was late evening and fearing her mother, she finally went.

After our meeting, we started talking on the phone late at night. We wouls speak continually from 10 pm to 4 am. I developed feelings for her and I know that she also felt the same way, but neither of us proposed to each other. At the time, I feared that I was from a small town and she was from a large metro -- maybe I was not the right choice for her. But one day, the pressure got too much, so I indirectly asked her -- and she proposed to me. I was excited and did not respond -- I just made a trip to Kolkata and met her and proposed. She was in tears and I was also so happy that someone other than my family loved me.

As our feelings and relationship grew and got stronger, I started bunking office twice a month just to go to Kolkata and meet her. We started planning to get married but I feared that maybe her family didn't want to send her to a small town. Her sister and mother liked me very much, but her father was not ready for our marriage because of two reasons -- one, I was from a small town and lived there and two, I worked in insurance. So he arranged her marriage to a local boy whose family income was very good. They were rich, but she did not want to marry him and she was even ready to run away from home to be with me, but I stopped her, as it would hurt her father and family reputation.

I know that I am going to miss her forever, but I stopped her only for the sake of her family. Just before the date of her marriage, I got to know that her fiance had been getting calls and SMSes from an unidentified person citing our relationship and urging him not to marry her. Her family thought that it was me and a lot of drama took place, but I got to know that it was a few of her own family members who did it. I decided, however, to remain quiet for her sake and that I should not talk to or meet her anymore. Now she is married and happy and blessed with a baby girl. I miss her a lot, but I also think that love is not only taking, it is also giving.
