Images: Sabya gets the audience roaring

The Kolkata-based designer's latest collection, inspired by the tiger was part of Aircel's Save the Tiger campaign.

Sabyasachi ended the first day of the Lakme Fashion Week with his collection inspired by the tiger and the Sundarbans. Needless to say the line had a lot of yellow, black and ivory tones.

The collection also moved through the various decades to pieces of Jazz music.

Bringing the Sundarbans on the ramp

Giant tree cutouts provided the backdrop to the show representing the Sundarbans the forests known for their Royal Bengal Tiger as the collection experimented with shades of colours as varied as red, black and purple.

Black n white beauty

Unlike the usual Sabyasachi and many of us are used to seeing, this one was western though it did have very interesting use of Indian textiles and prints.

Time travel

The collection also moved through various decades from the fun and freedom of the 20s, followed by the elegance of the 30s and 40s through 70s Boho chic and the daring arresting bras of the 80s.

Nothing to be sari about

What is a Sabyasachi collection without a sari? The designer surely lived up to his reputation and brought in these stunning chotu saris worn over long lush skirts.

Saying with flare

While Sabya's silhouettes were lean and long for shifts, skirts and even shirts this one was an exception and had the trademark Sabya flare.

Lady in red

Candice Pinto shows off one of Sabya's collection as it moves away from the earthy tones towards reds.

Glass with a class

Horn-rimmed glasses and top-knot hair dos were also the call of the day as more daring colours and floral prints made their presence felt on the ramp.

Jumpsuits are in

Jumpsuits that are becoming more of a norm than an exception, Sabya's collection featured shimmering sharara-like jumpsuits.

Quirky kitsch

The chandelier like shoulder in dresses like this one, added a quirky touch to the ensembles.

Flowing sack gowns

The final trio of boldly printed sack gowns with deep cut armholes was a brilliant end to a stunning show.

The master takes a bow

Sabyasachi, never stepping on the ramp simply stepped out of the wings, took a bow and promptly walked back.
