Off-ramp trends: Gladiator sandals and more

Russell Crowe may have brought the gladiator sandals into our collective consciousness. But it seems like the women have taken to it more than the men (whew!).

On Day Two of the Lakme Fashion Week, gladiator sandals seemed to rule the roost.

The verdict was clear -- Masaba who made her debut this morning told rediff.com that her shoes were amazingly comfortable... and affordable.

"I'd bought them for Rs 500 from a local store," she giggled.

Interestingly at least two fashion editors from prominent magazines turned up in gladiator sandals.

The style has been a big hit amongst urban working women -- who like to mix style with durability. Gladiator sandals have another plus point -- there's one for each girl -- the rebel, the dainty, the sporty, the casual chic.

Gladiator sandals are available at prices ranging from Rs 500 to $60 across the city and the world.

Move over, Men In Black. It's time to make way for the men in shorts.

Men don't need a reason to bare, do they? Think of it...how often have you seen the men in your house prancing around in almost nothings under that flimsy excuse: 'it's hot'?

The soaring mercury in Mumbai was reason enough for the men here to drop their pants and go for a pair of shorts instead. While most men had managed to get someone to actually custom design a pair for them (yup... there are finicky men too, you know) some others just chose to roll up their denims (there you go...) and get with it.

Either way, short length pants were the flavour of the season here at Lakme Fashion Week.

Black may have been the new black at least a couple of seasons ago.

But if Day Two at the Lakme Fashion Week was anything to go by, it was yellow (canary yellow to be specific) and green all the way.

The colours that were a range in the spring-summer collections made their way into the lounge and lobby on Day Two here. Yellow and green by themselves and in combinations on belts shoes and bags were a big hit. But the one that caught our attention was this dude wearing the colour on the frame of his Diesel glares.
