JEE Main 2014 registrations begin; Apply before Dec 26

Online registration for the first phase of JEE commences November 15, 2013

To register for the first phase of the joint entrance examination students will have to upload their photographs along with their signature and left thumb impression online.

Commencing this year, engineering aspirants from India who wish to appear for the Joint Entrance Examination for admission into the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology will be allowed to submit their applications online along with relevant documents for the process.

By allowing students to submit their documents online, the Central Board of Secondary Education has taken a positive step towards helping students avoid delays in submission.

The online registration process commences today, November 15 and students can submit their application and related documents by logging on to http://jeemain.nic.in/jeemainapp/Root/LoginPage.aspx.

Who can apply

To register for the exam, the candidate has to fulfill the following criteria:

Pass Percentage in Qualifying Examination

Candidates must have studied Physics, Mathematics as compulsory subjects

They must have studied any one of the subjects as optional subjects (Chemistry, Bio-Technology, Computer Science, Biology)

They must have secured a minimum of 50 per cent marks in total including all subjects

Date of Birth

Candidates must be born on or after October 1, 1989 to be considered for the JEE Main 2014.

SC/ST/PwD candidates will have a relaxation of the upper age limit by five years.

SC/ST/PwD candidates must be born on or after October 1, 1984.

Note: Date of Birth as mentioned in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate will be taken as the correct one.

Year of Passing Qualifying Examination (QE)

Candidates must have passed their Class XII examination or other qualifying examination in the year 2012 or 2013. OR

Candidates who are appearing for their Class XII examination in 2014 are eligible

Candidates must have studied at least five subjects in their Class XII or other qualifying exam

Please note that candidates who had studied only four subjects were allowed as an exception in the JEE 2013. However whether this will be allowed in 2014 is yet to be announced.

Number of attempts:

A maximum number of three attempts will be allowed per candidate provide the other eligibility criteria are fulfilled by the candidates

Candidates from Maharashtra, Odisha will have to appear for JEE Main 2014 as the respective states have joined in the JEE Main system along with Gujarat.

How to apply

Starting this year, students who wish to appear for the Joint Entrance Examination will be required to upload their passport size colour photograph, signature and an impression of their left thumb in JPEG formats and submit it online along with the JEE Main 2014 Application form.

Important dates

The last date for the submission of application is December 26, 2013.

The JEE Main 2014 pen and paper test is scheduled on the following dates:

Paper 1: April 6, 2014 from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm

Paper 2: April 6, 2014 from 2 pm to 5 pm

Meanwhile, the computer based tests will be held on April 9, 11, 12 and 19, 2014.

The results are expected to be announced on May 3, 2014.
