Mihir Trivedi who weighed 120 kilos tells us how he shed those extra kilos and got back in shape to look his age.
There is a famous saying that goes: "Life is a game, play it. Life is a book, read it. Life is a journey travel in it. In short, life is precious, so live it".
But there were days when above lines did not serve true for me. This was when I weighed 120kg. I knew I was overweight and was trying different methods of shed some kilos.
None of the methods worked. In fact some of them gave me all sorts of negative impacts, which eventually resulted in adding a few more kilos. It was horrible.
The only reason I was obese was the lack of motivation to look good.
But, last year, a small thought of looking good confronted the way I lived my life.
Today, I'm a 28-year-old management graduate working in the education sector.
As for my story, I wasn't always so fat. I was quite skinny, during my school days.
In fact my Nana (grandfather) used to comment, "You are Sudama –Lord Krishna's friend" because Sudama was an example of a poor, malnourished person.
However, as I grew up, and got busier, I neglected my healthy habits which naturally took a toll on my health resulting in overweight.
During my management days I gained more weight.
I was aware of the fact and as a first step towards the change I enrolled in a gym. But due to lack of intrinsic motivation, I gave up.
I was disheartened that I'm caught in the black hole where is no way out. This further led to depression.
Finally, my friends, Deepak Gupta, Pritesh Sodha, Rahul Atani, Parth, Kalpit, Pooja, Yogita, Pramod Sir and dearest late Neeraj Jad inspired me to take up the challenge and go on the spree of experiencing how it feels to look good and fit.
In the past, they were the same people who would specifically make fun of me and my overweight personality.
They used tease me with different adjectives. Thankfully, I understood that the real motive behind this fun was to push me to the ultimate goal of good health.
I'm really thankful to my parents, neighbours, friends and family for supporting me through this Herculean task.
Most importantly, I would like to thank Dr Hetal Shah, my dietician for giving me proper advice and guidance.
I started my weight loss journey on March 16, 2011.
I had to visit Dr Hetal's clinic every 10 days and religiously follow her diet plan and chart.
She is careful in understanding her patients' needs and accordingly directs the patients on diet plans.
In the beginning, it was tough.
Since I was working it was difficult to juggle between maintaining a proper diet and balancing work schedule.
I used to wake up at 6 am and prepare around ten lunch boxes, as suggested by Dr Hetal.
Cooking was not the issue because I'm a good cook and love cooking at any occasion and at any given point of time.
The trouble was to sustain the day with the diet food, particularly since I was used to eating so much junk food.
I managed to substitute my junk diet with a balanced food habit.
Diet leads to starving is a big myth, which I learnt in this process.
One of the reasons we tend fail following the diet regime is because we starve and not follow a strict diet.
A proper diet plan is where you don't feel hungry through the day. It simply means having the right food in right quantity along with proper exercise.
Compliments, acceptance and appreciation are just a part of my day to day life which motivates me to work harder.

I love to be reintroduced to myself again.
People who knew me before are just amazed with my new 'avataar'.
Some of them even call me to ask for tips to lose weight.
What more can I expect from life... Thank you God!!
At present, I weigh 76 kgs. I lost 44kgs in the last 10 months.
I lost almost 33 per cent of my body mass. Today, I feel great, lighter and healthy.
My hard work paid off very well.
If I could do it, so can you.
My only suggestion is that any diet should be considered under the consultation of a good dietician, else the repercussions could be undesirable.
Here are a few suggestions I would like to offer:
In today's world, one of the major causes of any illness is obesity.
I was suffering from high blood pressure, (160-100), and it's dangerous at this age.
Today, because of my healthy habits my blood pressure is normal.
I would suggest everyone to get some time out of the busy schedule to give importance to their health and pledge to remain healthy forever.
I believe that we only live once, so if you do it right, one life is enough.
When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile.
Dream what you want to dream, go where you want to go, be what you want to be. Because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.
