As British supermodel Cara Delevingne gets set for her appearance on the big screen, we look at some of the supermodels in the West who have also acted in movies.
Kate Upton
We start out with Kate Upton whose third movie The Other Woman is set for release this year. The American glamour model has acted in the 2011 film Tower Heist and The Three Stooges (2012).

Upton’s The Other Woman co-star Cameron Diaz was also a model before she hit it big in Hollywood.
Having begun her career as a fashion model at 16, Diaz has worked for brands such as Calvin Klein and Levi's and has also shot a commercial for Coca-Cola.
In fact she auditioned for The Mask on the recommendation of her modelling agency, Elite. The rest, as they say, is history.

Then of course there’s Elle Macpherson who may be better known for her modelling contracts and of course that famous nickname -- The Body.
But did you know she has some ten movies to her credit, including a 1996 adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre?

But it was only recently that Brooklyn Decker made her big screen debut with the Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler-starrer Just Go with It (2011).
She followed it up with two films in the following year -- Battleship (2012) and What to Expect When You're Expecting.

In 1980, Brooke Shields became the youngest model to have appeared on the cover of Vogue.
In the same year, she also appeared in controversial print and television commercials for Calvin Klien Jeans.
She was only 14 at the time.
But Brooke Shields had been modelling for a long time before that -- her first commercial was when she was 11 months old and she continued working as a child model before she made it big in the business.
Like many models Shields too made a foray into films and starred in several films, including The Blue Lagoon (1980).

Many of us may remember her Sharon Stone for *that* scene in Basic Instinct.
But long before that, Sharon Stone was a model.
Despite being academically gifted, Stone took the advice of a pageant judge, quit her education and moved in with an aunt in New Jersey to become a fashion model.
In four days Ford Modelling Agency signed her up and she was in business.
Stone, who had a bit role in Woody Allen’s Stardust Memories is now set to appear alongside the great actor-director in the recent movie Fading Gigolo.

Sharon Stone’s Fading Gigolo co-star Sofia Vergara may be best known for her role in the American television show Modern Family.
But long before she hit it big in Hollywood, Colombia-born Vergara was a model having been discovered by a photographer while walking on a beach.
Even as modelling and television work came along, Vergara remained apprehensive of doing her first television commercial for Pepsi and didn’t accept the offer till her Catholic schoolteachers granted her permission.
Sofia Vergara is 41.
