A new, unexpected trend has emerged in recent months.

Apparently, you need not be marrying anymore to wear a wedding dress -- it can be any special occasion.

The supermodel donned this Zac Posen strapless gown with layered fishtail train for the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards in January. Talk about showstopping bridal chic!

Someone else at the Globes was also rocking the trend -- Oscar-winning actress Charlize opted for an origami-style number by Christian Dior. All that was missing was a veil on her sparkling hairband.

A fairytale wedding would definitely involve an ensemble like this. Jen channelled her inner bride with this feminine Romona Keveza outfit at last year's Golden Globes. Keveza is known for her couture wedding creations and the actress obviously thought she would shine in this one.

B eing a former model, Milla is obviously clued in to what works fashion-wise. So she donned this one-shouldered silvery-white Elie Saab ensemble for the Academy Awards in February. And yes, Saab is a prominent bridal couturier too.

Statuesque Uma wowed in Versace at the Cannes Film Festival Opening Ceremony in 2011 -- her jaw-dropping gown came complete with feathery train.

We're surprised the singer didn't have bridesmaids accompanying her down the red carpet to last year's Met Gala in New York! Her Marchesa design was set off by tulle, applique flowers and a very wedding-y headband.

Nothing states 'bridal' more than a white dress delicately embroidered in gold and silver. And that's exactly what Nicole chose for last year's Academy Awards -- a gorgeous Dior.

Of course, not all brides think white -- some like to experiment with a subtle palette. And so does Emma, apparently; she selected this beautiful ruffled creation from Oscar de la Renta for the world premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part Two) in London last July.

Another Elie Saab! This off-white, vintage-inspired lace ensemble suited Jessica to the tee at this year's Globes. Rumour has it the actress is going to be wearing Saab again when she walks down the aisle for real, later this year.

This should provide inspiration to the pastel-loving ladies about to get hitched -- just don't get your hair done to match! Katy's ice-blue Grammy dress was the work of Elie Saab (again!), who also designed her wedding trousseau. The popstar's marriage has unfortunately ended, but her love affair with Saab's bridals continues.

Kate Beckinsale looked quite the modern bride in a strapless corset fishtail Roberto Cavalli creation at the Golden Globes this January. And she set it off dripping with diamonds, too.

Delicate in peach lace, Scarlett brought retro glam to the 2011 Golden Globes red carpet in this -- brace yourself -- Elie Saab design. A demure number in a beautiful colour, any bride would be lucky to land one like this!

It was grey, it was glittery, it was Gucci. Not surprising, considering her billionaire husband owns the fashion house and several others. But one thing's for sure -- Mexican bombshell Salma's 2011 Cannes dress was certainly bridally inspired. And it could inspire a few too!

Thank heaven for the fuschia purse, or someone would have given away Geri's hand in marriage before she got to attend a charity gala in London last September! There's no word on who designed this layered, lavish gown but really, this was overdoing the trend a tad.

Last week's Met Gala saw the Twilight star in Donna Karan Atelier. With its white hue, long train and silvery strands, Ashley's beautiful ensemble could well have been straight out of a bridal book.

At the Screen Actors Guild Awards in January, the 30 Rock actress rocked an Amsale applique floral delight. And considering she got engaged the night before, you can't blame her for feeling quite bridal!

The BAFTA Brits To Watch event last July saw Blake decked out in a baby blue, silvery-edged Marchesa, another big player among wedding couturiers. We're guessing any man would want to marry her in a heartbeat!

The Big Bang Theory star Kaley took the romantic route to this year's Screen Actors Guild Awards, wearing a bridal in mint green by Romona Keveza. Like we said, straight off the runway and onto the red carpet!

By her standards it was rather demure, but then wedding-style dresses usually are! Paris plucked this Basil Soda outfit with embroidered panels and a sweep for the 2012 Grammys.

And finally we come to actress Rooney Mara, who looked lovely in Givenchy at the Academy Awards in February. Designed expressly for her, the pearl-colored lace mermaid gown garnered quite a few eyeballs because, as the actress put it, it was "modern but romantic".
