From Bollywood to Hollywood, here are the outfits that generated the most buzz on the red carpet this year. Vote and tell us whether you approve or not!
In the world of fashion and entertainment, pretty much everyone can get their hands on high-end couture.
And so, in order to stand out in a sea of equally famous faces, celebrities sometimes have to take a fashion risk or two in a bid to make an impression.
In the following pages, we bring you the biggest sartorial risks stars have undertaken this year -- take our poll and let us know whether you love each look or hate it!
We start off with our best-known desi fashionista Sonam Kapoor, who always dares to be different. Of everything she's worn this year, this draped sari-pant combo by Anamika Khanna is one of the more recent and certainly the most unusual.
Do you think she wears it well, or is she looking less like a movie star and more like an air hostess?
We're used to seeing blazers on the red carpet -- what we're not used to is seeing them worn minus any pants!
Miley Cyrus had jaws dropping when she wore this sexy white Jean Paul Gaultier blazer to an awards ceremony earlier this year.
Kalki Koechlin can carry off most things. But what do you make of this pleated Chanel affair she donned for IIFA 2012? It was rather kitschy and seemed two sizes too large, hanging off her slim frame.
Kristen Stewart's recent red carpet appearance set tongues wagging -- she showed up in this Erdem dress, which is little more than a netted tunic worn over satin innerwear. And don't miss those hot neon pumps on her feet!
You'd think that a flouncing gold skirt was a recipe for disaster, but astoundingly enough, Poorna Jagannathan was able to look chic in one, teamed with a jewelled blouse by Drashta. Hats off!
They say either plunging neckline or thigh-high slit, never both. But supermodel Heidi Klum threw caution to the wind in this lace-up blue and gold studded Versace gown last month.
Trashy or tantalising? You tell us!
Futuristic fashion is not without its faults. But they're hard to spot on Dipannita Sharma -- she's carried off this strapless Gavin Miguel gown like a true intergalactic queen!
Reality star Kim Kardashian loves showing off her ample curves, but her adventurous 2012 wardrobe hasn't always been spot-on.
This ruffled black mullet dress by Stephane Rolland, for instance, was quite a fashion risk -- and didn't exactly pay off.
Sameera Reddy always makes an effort to stand out. Unfortunately, this one didn't pay off -- it's certainly unique, but that kimono jacket worn over a corset and palazzo pants makes it seem like she's headed to bed!
Not everyone can make a structured dress work, particularly one so sharp that it has angles. But Emma Stone looked like a dream in this applique Chanel number...we love it! Do you?
Spunky Anushka Sharma opted for a unique bronze-toned Bibhu Mohapatra gown at an awards function early in 2012. It certainly set her apart -- what do you think?
Besides Miley Cyrus, another daring Jean Paul Gaultier ensemble was sported by Fergie at the 2012 Grammys -- an orange lace gown worn over only knickers and a bra. Love it or hate it, you certainly can't ignore it!
Eep! This is as high a risk as one can take with style -- and Hazel Keech was up to the challenge of this garish Adarsh Gill outfit. But did she pull it off? And is that even possible?
There's vintage, and then there's granny gowns that look like they're fashioned from curtains. Unfortunately for fashionista Sarah Jessica Parker, her Valentino number falls into the latter category. What's your take?
It's most unlike her, but Rani Mukerji recently decided to take a chance with this BCBG pleated colourblock affair. Did she pull it off well, or did it overcome her petite frame?
Anne Hathaway has taken plenty of style risks this year, moving away from safe choices and in a new direction.
This Tom Ford gown with its dramatic cape and those dominatrix shoes were certainly her most talked-about ensemble, but unfortunately, it wasn't only because of their amazing appearance -- unfortunately, Anne suffered a wardrobe malfunction in them.
Like we mentioned before, retro has its downside -- it can make you look pretty outdated too!
Just ask Sarah-Jane Dias, who looked 10 years older in this sequined Atsu sheath dress she wore to a fashion do.
Wearing a turban and eye-searing gold gown to one of the biggest fashion events in the world takes guts!
Karolina Kurkova proved her supermodel chops at the Met Gala 2012 in NYC in this Rachel Zoe creation -- amazingly, she pulled it off.
Leopard print pants. Not for the faint-hearted. Shibani Dandekar, however, manages to make them look pretty darn hip! Do you agree?
Her eclectic and sometimes eccentric sense of style is inimitable. Singer Florence Welch didn't bat an eyelid while stepping out in this tiered and ruffled Alexander McQueen number -- we salute you!
She never conforms to the Bollywood wives' club -- Adhuna Akhtar clearly dresses more for herself and less for the cameras. And she seems comfortable doing it too -- few can pull off a dress over jeans and green lace-up shoes!
At this year's Oscars, Angelina Jolie chose to walk the red carpet in a strapless velvet Atelier Versace gown. And Angelina Jolie looks great in everything -- except when she insists on sticking her stick-thin leg out the slit every step of the way!
High-waisted leathery pants that end at the ankle. But model Hasleen Kaur was at home and looking rather edgy in them, along with her black Rajat Tangri embellished top.
And finally we come to the lovely Kirsten Dunst, who wore this not-so-lovely Rodarte blazer and skirt combo to the Met Gala. Too, too old-school. Maybe it would have made an impression sans the skirt!
