An ad in the papers launched her modelling career and three years on, Delhiite Garima Parnami will be making her mark on the Lakme Fashion Week runway for the first time this week. In a chat with rediff.com, she discusses her career, beauty tips and a few of her favourite things.

How I got into modelling: I started modelling with agency Shoot Talent Management three and a half years ago, when I was 21. They were auditioning for their very first group of models and I saw the advertisement in the newspaper. I decided to give it a shot, got selected and ever since, I've been working with them. My first showing was with (designer) Arjun Saluja and it was a great experience -- I was so nervous!

My beauty secret: I swear by three things -- wash, tone and moisturise your skin.

'Make your body work and sweat'

My diet: I am into healthy eating. I love salads and fruit (foods which are not cooked, basically), as they give me a lot of fibre. That way, my system stays clean and healthy.

My fitness regime: I work out for at least an hour daily whenever I'm not busy. And I love weight training. You need to workout, indulge in some activity like dancing. Just give your body some kind of exercise, make it work and sweat -- that keeps you fit and slim and your skin also glows. A lot of water intake is important too.

'My shoe's heel broke off on the ramp'

My personal sense of style: I love wearing dresses...comfortable, girlie, colourful dresses.

My most embarrassing at-work moment: Well, I was walking the ramp once and my shoe's heel broke. I was confused, for few moments I didn't realise what had happened. I thought there was a hole in the ramp and when the same thing happened a few times, I realised it was my shoe that was the problem!

'Every place is amazing if you are with the right person'

Quick facts about me:

My favourite cuisine: Indian

My favourite drink: Fruit juices

I love hanging out at: Every place is amazing if you are with the right person, so anywhere with my loved ones is fine by me.

Music I enjoy: These days it's electronic -- otherwise, everything.

Best movie of all time: Notting Hill

Favourite book: Digital Fortress by Dan Brown

Preferred travel destination: Wherever there is a beautiful beach...

'You have to be patient in this industry'

Makeup I can't live without: Kajal

My biggest indulgence: It's nothing material -- to me, spending time with the ones I love, sharing a great movie or a nice meal together is my indulgence.

My biggest challenge: Patience. You have to be patient in this industry. There are many times when you feel like things aren't working out and you have to hold on for a little longer than expected. Many don't do that -- they get disillusioned and quit.

Serious actor, sex symbol or supermodel? Super model...they are popular only amongst a very specific group of people. Not everyone can recognise them.

My idea of a perfect day: Getting drenched in the rain or lying on the beach.

My passion: I love adventure sports, reading, music, driving and dancing

'I go with the flow'

Things that turn me on in a man: Hygiene, manners, a sense of style and confidence.

Turn-offs: The opposite of everything I just mentioned.

If I wasn't a model, I would be: A fashion designer.

I can't leave home without: My cellphone.

In my spare time... I complete my pending chores, help Mom around the house, clean my room etc. I keep busy.

Future plans: I go with the flow...
