The who's who of Indian cinema made sure they were at Manish Malhotra's show on the end of the first day of the Lakme Fashion Week.
In many ways it was a show worthy of a grand finale. Manish Malhotra who pretty much made all of Bollywood fashion conscious, put up a show to celebrate one hundred years of Indian cinema. The show began with a nod to the genius of four directors who have redefined Bollywood in the last decade and a half.
So, first up was Karan Johar, not a stranger to fashion shows, took to the ramp in a long flowy kurta and salwar.
Black Friday director Anurag Kashyap looked tad uncomfortable while walking the ramp in this bandh gala but managed to pull it off at the end.
Also somewhat out of place was Love Sex Aur Dhoka director Dibakar Banerjee who also managed to shine under the arclights at the end.
It was Zoya Akhtar however who was the most comfortable playing a fashion model as she took to the ramp like fish to water.
A snapshot of the four directors who have redefined Bollywood for our times.
The real show however started with outfits in classic shades and silhouettes from the 1930s as seen here.
Black and white dominated the ramp in the early part of the show with designs harking back to the monochrome era.
Women wore anarkalis, men sported bandhgalas and you couldn't help feel nostalgic of the times when Bollywood greats such as Ashok Kumar, Devika Rani and Kundan Lal Saigal created magic on the silver screen.
Almost immediately, Malhotra shifted his focus to the pretty pastel shades of the '60s.
Alesia Raut sports a flirty sari that shows just a hint of the waist as part of Manish Malhotra's tribute to one hundred years of Bollywood.
The silhouettes shifted from the flowy anarkalis to the fitted salwar kameezes that spelt fashion back in the day.
Up next were the '70s inspired polka dots as seen here...
Diva Dhawan sports a look that makes us weak in our knees.
Don't miss the super-sized sunglasses that were a rage in the '70s. And have made a comeback with a vengeance in our times.
Cut to the '80s when disco bling inspired fashion sensibilities. Kanishtha Dhankar walks the ramp in a Manish Malhotra sari.
Also in a blingy sari is Candice Pinto with her hair let down.
Student of the Year star Varun Dhawan walks the ramp in a blue bandhgala teamed with a white kurta and a pair of white trousers.
Dhawan's co-star Siddharth Malhotra walks the ramp for Manish Malohtra.
Desi Girl Priyanka Chopra in a contemporary sari that made saris sexier than ever.
Veteran singer Asha Bhosle who was part of the audience, was invited on the ramp at the end of the show to speak a few words confessed that she'd done everything in her life except walk the fashion ramp.
Seizing the opportunity, Manish Malhotra and the rest urged Bhosle who recently turned 80, to do the honours. The doyenne of Indian music wasted no time in showing off her fashionable side as she took to the ramp. And boy did she dazzle!
Seen behind her (from L-R) are Varun Dhawan, the legendary costume designer Bhanu Athaiya, Priyanka Chopra, Manish Malhotra, Siddharth Malhotra and Hema Malini.
Manish Malhotra also invited Kajol and Karisma Kapoor to the ramp as he took a bow.
