The fashion Badshah of Bollywood Couture showcased his latest line as Bollywood celebrities lined up to watch his show.
Lakme Fashion Week's Winter/Festive 2013 season got off to a spectacular start with Manish Malhotra's festive/pre-bridal collection.
The line that was called Reflections, was vintage Manish Malhotra in very many ways -- opulent, colourful and glamorous.
The show itself however was unconventional in it that for perhaps the first time, he split the ramp into two as models wearing similar outfits walked to its head, giving an illusion of a reflection.
The line celebrated Indian traditions, cultures, rituals and vibrant colour spectrum for the fusion line as hues of Rajasthan and Kutch came alive on the runway in tones of deep green, dark beige, tan, burgundy, shocking pink, red, navy, and mustard dappled with mirror work and colour blocking.
The designer also showcased the stylish ghagra-pant -- a fusion of the Sharara and a classic pant seen here on Natasha Ramachandran (L)
Working with tulle, chiffon, georgette, pure/raw silk, velvet and textured fabrics, Malhotra wove magic on the ramp.
What is a Manish Malhotra outfit without embellishments, right? Glitter and resham work along with hints of zari were also prominent in the line.
Also featured in the Reflections were velvet cholis and elaborate ghagras such as these.
For the men, Manish Malhotra designed two-tone kurtas, some with stripes, others simply plain that were teamed with wide salwars, dhotis or dhoti pants.
Trademark Sherwanis and bundies in varied colour contrasts over kurtas for men also appeared on the runway.
In many ways, Malhotra's silhouettes for men were more conventional, even as they remained stylish as always.
