If you thought it takes the expertise and talent of a renowned designer to dress you up like a celebrity, you're mistaken.
At the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai, we caught up with students, aspiring models and people from the non-entertainment industry who were dressed to kill and could easily give some of the professional models a good run for their money.
When we spoke to some of these fashionistas, they obliged us with a tip or two about what fashion meant to them and how to get the act right. Read on and be inspired!
Who: Jamie Dave, model, host and freelancer with a style magazine
My style: Sharing the details of the customised designer sari, she says, “I am wearing my own creation which I got made in four days with my friend Nikita Motiani who owns My Own Boutique in Rajkot. I have used a white glitter raw silk saree with a thin work border and a net blouse.”
Fashion tip: The thin inner border, she says is very much in fashion these days.

Who: Parmesh Shahani, head of Godrej India Culture Lab and author of Gay Bombay
My style: "I am wearing a helicopter headgear and accessories designed by Little Shilpa," says Shahani.

Who: Dr Rinku, a skin specialist
My style: She has paired her Aldo shoes with an outfit from Linking Road, in the western Mumbai suburb of Bandra.
Fashion tip: I wear whatever is comfortable and suits my body type.
“It is not necessary to wear only big brands. I like to pair a branded garment or accessory with stuff from Hong Kong type shops in Linking Road, Bandra," she says.

Who: Candace Castellino, fashion enthusiast
My style: "I have combined a printed designer saree by Mayur Rajput with a black sleeveless embroidered blouse."

My style: "I always choose to wear something that goes with my personality. Today, I’m wearing a patterned Vinegar gown I bought from Khar, Mumbai."

Who: Lavina Manghnani, MBA student and aspiring model
My style: A cheetah printed cocktail dress which I picked up while shopping at Linking Road Bandra.
Fashion Tip: Manghnani says it doesn't matter whether you wear international or Indian brands. "One can mix up with stuff you pick up from local stores and markets and look good. All that matters is how you carry it."
