Androgyny is here to stay. If there was one common link between the shows of three young designers who have fairly distinct styles and backgrounds, it was the androgynous silhouettes.
We bring you works of Nikhil Thampi, Nishka Lulla and Nupur Kanoi and the thread that bound them all.
Inspired by the works of the American painter, sculptor and illustrator, Richard Artschwager, Nikhil Thampi's collection The Cruise 2013 made a splash on Day Two of the Lakme Fashion Week.
First up we have Alesia Raut in a two-tone jumpsuit.

The fish motif was a recurring one in many of Thampi's designs including this one that model Himangi Parte wore.

The collection makes use of a variety of fabrics -- from crape and net to cotton and lycra and the silhouettes that defined the collection included shift dresses, saris, gowns, swimwear, tailored jackets, pants and jumpsuits.

Carrying forward her last collection that sought inspiration from and designed for the boho-chic traveller, Nishka Lulla's spring summer line still caters to the same audience. The colour palette this season was easy on the eye as the young designer experimented with muslin, crepe and cotton among other fabrics.
First up we have a crepe shirt and organza petticoat with dandelion detail.

Over the years, Lulla Jr's style has evolved to a more raw and easy quality that draws its inspiration from the everyday. Thus we have this muslin calf-length maxi with beehive mesh petticoat that makes it not just stylish but also immensely wearable in the humid Indian summer.

Finally, Nishka Lulla takes to the ramp in one of her own creations to take a bow.

Androgyny was most prominent in the collection of the final of the three designers -- Nupur Kanoi.
She took her cue from gender-bending icons such as Katherine Hepburn and Fearless Nadia and adapted menswear styles for contemporary womenswear.
Surelee Joseph opens the show for Kanoi in a pair of zari embroidered silk trousers paired with a zari weave blazer and georgette shirt.
