Ayesha Takia

Bollywood actress Ayesha Takia reacts to 10-year-old French model Thylane Blondeau posing in the recent issue of Vogue, talks about fashion blunders and giggles.

Ayesha Takia wasn't walking the ramp today, but she made her presence felt on Day One of the Lakme Fashion Week all the same.

The Bollywood actress was here to support designer Archana Khochhar. In the midst of a lot of giggling (she giggles. A LOT) the charming Takia let us grill her.

Who are you walking for?

Oh I am not walking for anyone. I'm just here to support (designer) Archana Khochhar who is a friend and a great designer.

Are you wearing one of her outfits?

Yes I am! In fact it is part of the collection she just showed.

So let's see, what is the highest calorie food you've eaten this week?

I don't know; I don't count calories (laughs).

You've walked the ramp for a lot of designers, when you hate an outfit a designer picks for you, you...

...say I don't like it.

And you get away with it?

(Laughs) Yes, I do mostly!

Your take on celebrities as showstoppers?

I've been a showstopper several times and I don't see why someone who has worked closely with the designer (on a collection), likes his/her work and supports him/her shouldn't walk the ramp for that designer.

You see so many gorgeous models do their thing and there you are walking out of love for the designer. Its' fun.

What about the celebrities eyeing you from head to toe sitting in the front rows...?

That's nice as well -- they're guests the designer has invited and they are supposed to see the designs from head to toe.

Alright. Lady Gaga -- fashion disaster or fashion icon?

She is an ICON! Why? Because she is wild, she is out there and she takes chances

Okay. So do you remember the first time you walked the ramp and what was going through your mind at the time?

I can't remember the very first time I did that because it was a very, very, very long time ago. I suppose I must've been nervous because although you're used to walking, the idea of walking on the ramp is scary because one has the feeling that you are going to trip and fall.

The ONE fashion blunder you committed thay you'd rather forget?

Oh! I am certain there have been many but I don't regret any or remember them. I suppose you folks will remember better! (laughs) I just take it (in my stride and accept it as) part of my journey.

Your take on 10-year-old model Thylane Blondeau posing in the recent issue of French Vogue?

I don't like it. Children should have a childhood and that shouldn't be taken away. I don't know her personally nor do I know her story, but I strongly feel that children should be kept out of (the) glamour (industry).
