The days when Indian royalty ruled the nation may long be over, but the romance of those times is something that continues to fascinate and impress us.
And that's just what designer duo Shyamal and Bhumika were counting on when they launched their collection 'Maharaja' at Lakme Fashion Week today.
Heavy, opulent fabrics, plush colours, ornate embroidery and traditional silhouettes came together to recreate the fantasy of a bygone era on the ramp; the period ensembles, comprising anarkalis, lehengas, saris and sherwanis were nothing if not grand.
Seen here is Surelee Joseph wearing a beautiful gold-embellished lehenga in earthy tones, set off by a net dupatta.

Nethra Raghuraman strikes a pose in a reverie of rich red velour, champagne and emerald green, topped off with striking embroidery.
For the men, the designers offer an aristocratic gold sherwani, set off by a contrast dupatta and turban.
Purple, the colour of royalty, makes its mark with this jaw-dropping outfit.
Flowing to the floor, an anarkali gown in deep red is set off by an emerald velour dupatta.
