Indian art and Boho glam at LFW: Babita M

Here's what designer Babita Malkani had to offer on Day Three of Lakme.

Babita Malkani's summer/resort 2011 collection 'Iktar' was inspired by the Baul singers of Bengal.

Using prints of Baul singers, Bengali scriptures and instruments like the Iktara on fabrics like cotton and silk, the collection was relaxed, fluid and feminine. The colour palette ranged from beige to crimson; block printing, spray and hand printing, dyeing techniques and lots of surface ornamentation and delicate embroidery were the highlight of the garments.

The show opened to Bengali folk tunes, chants of Om and chimes of church bells as the models stepped onto the runway. Seen here is a toga with Baul singers' prints on the hem worn by Alesia Raut.
