In their bid to stand out, the rich and famous sometimes end up flashing far too much flesh. Here are some of the biggest fashion faux pas we've seen this year!

Olivia Wilde

American model-actress Olivia, 27, decided to shock her neighbours across the pond in the UK this August -- she turned up in a daring sheer blouse for a movie premiere. Of course, the front panel was meant to preserve her modesty, but it didn't and she ended up exposing wayyyy too much side cleavage.

What was the point of wearing an outfit you had to keep checking up on all evening, Olivia?

Gaga deserves an award for so many clothing controversies -- there's been a malfunction nearly every week in 2011!

Most recently, she ended up the centre of attention at the Emmy Awards in New York last month. Her 'gown', if you can call it that, was slit past her hips and Gaga's see-through, hardly-there innerwear was seen by all. Another inch higher and...better not go there!

The Ukrainian-born Hollywood superstar wore such a low-cut netted dress to the Gorby 80 Gala in London this March that it was a disaster waiting to happen. And sure enough, it did!

It didn't help matters either, that this was quite a top-hat event to celebrate the 80th birthday of former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.

Even royalty can be caught unawares sometimes! The Duchess of Cambridge, a graceful and demure dresser, found that out the hard way on a trip to Canada in July. The brisk breeze played havoc with her dress at Calgary Airport and it was all Kate could do to hold the skirt down.

Still, the weather did manage to give us a peek at her fantastic pins, which we doubt we'll be seeing so much of in any other circumstances.

Pop star Katy never shies away from putting her voluptuous bod on display, but you'd think she'd have more sense than to don such a tiny number for the premiere of a children's movie! She ended up giving everyone a glimpse of her pert derriere at the New York premiere of The Smurfs in July.

Eva's parading of her assets seems to cause chaos every now and then. But we're guessing this was one time she truly was caught unawares, at the campaign for Thierry Mugler's fragrance Angel in New York this June.

The solution? Higher necklines, Eva, higher necklines!

The X Factor judge narrowly missed giving the cameras an x-rated pic at the first round of auditions for the show in Los Angeles, held back in the month of May. Luckily, Paula managed to keep things together with her valiant effort!

With her penchant for edgy clothing, pint-sized rapper Nicki couldn't contain her curves while performing on ABC TV programme Good Morning America in NY three months ago. And since it was a live broadcast, she ended up flashing an audience of millions!

Miss Lohan just can't seem to stay out of trouble. If she isn't spilling out of a low neckline or a high hemline, she decides to step out sans innerwear, like she did at Paris Fashion Week in October. Seeing less of her than we already have is something we could all live with!

The wholesome Disney star was performing at the third annual 'Concert for Hope' in Universal City, California this past March when her dress floated up to reveal body-contouring Spanx innerwear.

Luckily, it was more like a pair of little shorts, so Selena managed to come off without any skinshow as such -- very sensible!

Heroes star Hayden wasn't counting on such a powerful flash when she attended the Golden Globes post-party in January. She had passed up on wearing a bra, but thankfully had pasties on to preserve her modesty. Not-so-thankfully, they were a tad too bright and stood out in all the photographs!

Yummy mummy JLo fell prey to the mother of all malfunctions when she appeared on German TV show Wetten dass..? in Spain this June.

Ironically enough, she bent over to gain some control over her billowing dress before seating herself in order to avoid exposing too much -- and ended up exposing even more!

Malli loves to show off her fab figure, but she hadn't counted on tricky car exits!

In April this year, she was honoured by the Millions of Milkshakes beverage chain in the US, who named one of their concoctions after her. Miss Sherawat showed up for the christening in a sequined bikini and lehenga-like skirt slit to her hip -- and when the time came to leave her vehicle, she didn't know what to cover up first, the excessive cleavage or leg show!

And finally, we come to Kat, who had a close shave this March at the Indian Music Awards in Mumbai. She was giving a spirited performance on stage, wearing tight leather pants and a corset when one of the straps fell off her shoulder -- quite a dangerous proposition!

Fortunately for the actress, her outfit didn't give way completely and except for a hint of extra cleavage, she didn't end up revealing too much.
