Four fashion designers of Indian origins took the New York Fashion Week by storm while American Donna Karan's India sojourn inspired her latest line.
India inspired even as its designers unravelled their fascinating creations on the runway.
Bibhu Mohapatra, Naeem Khan and Falguni and Shane Peacock showed their latest lines at the recently concluded New York Fashion Week even as a trip to the country became a source of inspiration for the designer Donna Karan. The India narrative was all over the New York Fashion Week runway. Here are some glimpses from the fashion extravaganza.
We start out with the couturier Naeem Khan's show which saw his friend, the stunning Padma Lakshmi in an elegant shift dress, among other guests in attendance.
Khan's collection was influenced by romance and colours of the Latin culture as he made his models walk against the background of what seemed like a south American rainforest.
Naeem Khan's inspiration was the Spanish Rose and he integrated its shades and hues in his creations.
Khan certainly seemed to have had an eye on his celebrity clients as several of his designs seemed cut out for the red carpet.
The finale gown was a wedding gown with a chapel length veil and announced Naeem Khan's foray into the soon-to-be launched bridal line.
Naeem Khan had showed at the Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai earlier this year.
You can view images from his show here and exclusive backstage pictures here.
Next up we have Bibhu Mohapatra's line whose overall look was pretty but sophisticated and Mohapatra, best known for his eveningwear seemed keen to branch out into daywear too.
Bibhu Mohapatra who hails from Orissa, studied merchandising and sales for fashion from University of Utah before completing his course in fashion designing from the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).
Mohapatra was catapulted to international fame when Michelle Obama wore one of his creations on Tonight with Jay Leno. There has never been any looking back for this young designer since then.
Bibhu Mohapatra has been compared to the likes Oscar de la Renta, the couturier to Jacqueline Kennedy among others and Bill Blass, the Fashion Institute of Technology's Lifetime Achievement Award winning designer.
Mohapatra had shown his collection at Mumbai's Lakme Fashion Week in March 2012.

Also making their presence felt at the New York Fashion Week was the designer couple Falguni and Shane Peacock who unveiled their Spring-Summer 2014 line. Among the first row guests at the show was the designer duo's celebrity client Paris Hilton.
Known for their edgy style, the couple's line featured some rather daring outfits including this one.
Dog collar-like neckpieces that seemed rather kinky also were a prominent prop in their collection in which black was a unifying colour throughout.
The Peacocks also seemed to have designed more for the red carpet than for high street fashion as seen in this outfit here.
Yet another outfit by Shane and Falguni Peacock featuring floral and geometric prints.
We close the Peacocks' collections with this stunning image of a models walking back into the wings as the show drew to a close.

A trip to India became the source of inspiration for Donna Karan's spring summer collection that she showed at the New York Fashion Week.
The American designer said that she'd spotted a scarf, which she fell in love with, carried it with her to India and came back with a suitcase full of new ones.
The collection featured day-to-night dress coats as well as menswear-inspired tailored outfits such as this one in terra-cotta and navy.
Also being featured were silk tunics ticked into a waistband much like this one.
We wrap up this edition with this printed wraparound skirt and a deep v-neck tunic by Donna Karan.
