It may be raining outside, but there's no need to put a damper on your inner fashionista -- take inspiration from these monsoon trends, as seen on the stars.
Here's the lowdown on what you should be stepping out in this rainy season -- so don't let it rain on your parade and gear up with the hottest accessories and clothing like these famous faces!
We start off with the classic trenchcoat, which has spread its influence well beyond the shores of the UK, becoming a worldwide style statement.
Our very own fashion diva Sonam Kapoor was seen at London Fashion Week this year, rubbing shoulders with the A-list in her chic beige and blue-trimmed number.
The upside of a trench is that you can wear it both in winter and in the monsoons -- assuming, of course, that you opt for one that's waterproof.
Dash of colour
If you want to let people know you've arrived (Mariah Carey certainly does!), you may want to give classic neutral tones a miss in favour of a brighter, vivacious hue. Red, yellow or even fuschia pink are all sure to be noticed.
While a neon trenchcoat would be very 2012 too, remember it's a trend that may not last and you'll have all of one season in which to sport your in-vogue acquisition.
The London Olympics effect
With the London Olympics underway, the already-fashionable Union Jack print has gone into overdrive -- the UK's flag is on everything from tee-shirts to handbags and bikinis.
So you may want to take a page out of Katy Perry's book when it comes to your umbrella -- it's quite the 'in' accessory for this year!
Colour block rain-blocker
Another 'in' thing for this season is colour blocking. You should have no trouble finding a brolly that fits into the scheme of things like TV actress Samantha Harris and it will liven up the gloomy days for sure!
Wellies made for walkin'
Wellingtons or wellies, as these rubber boots are also known, have also caught on bigtime in the last couple of years. It's likely you've seen women at bus-stops, in shopping malls and on the streets in what we once considered strictly children's footwear.
If you need any further validation, here's Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge doing what she does best -- giving her seal of approval to a monsoon look that women across the world are sure to imitate!
Make a statement
For the more colourful personality -- maybe not as colourful as rap star Nicki Minaj, but still -- a loud, pretty pair may be just the thing to trundle through puddles without getting your feet wet. So don't mind that the rest of her looks like a clown, because the boots are 'in'!
Jelly jazz
If you don't feel like lugging on a pair of boots each time you head out, jelly sandals and shoes -- made of PVC plastic -- are also making a great comeback. Fast-drying and waterproof, they're ideal for a rainy day if you don't mind getting your feet a little wet.
What's more, they're not just strictly casual anymore. Check out singer Leona Lewis in a designer pair by Vivienne Westwood, with dainty little kitten heels too!
Plastic but pretty
Even the First Lady of the US can't resist the jelly charm -- she's been spotted wearing plastic slip-ons on a rainy day too, although they're a far more casual pair than Leona's.
The bottom line is cute but practical.
Flip flop funk
Flip flops are yet another alternative when it comes to monsoon footwear. In either rubber or waterproof plastic, they come in a wide range of prints and colours at very reasonable prices.
Brazilian bombshell Gisele Bundchen's sandal range, Ipanema, is waterproof and ideal for the rains -- and yes, it's available to us too, on various Indian shopping websites and in footwear stores.
Dressin' down
Flip flops are easy on the feet, casual and go with practically any outfit under the sun -- or clouds, for that matter.
Case in point: Halle Berry, in an athletic jacket, distressed denims and a comfy pair completing her look.
Daisy dukes
Denim shorts, or daisy dukes, as they are also known, are the ideal item for the rainy season.
For one, they're sexy, as supermodel Karlie Kloss clearly illustrates here. And then they go brilliantly with wellies, jellies or flip flops.
And let's not forget, they're convenient in the wet season because they're not within easy reach of flecks of mud or spashes from puddles, unlike any garment you wear that's longer.
Dress up
And for more dress-up occasions, you can opt for an edgy pair like Ashley Simpson, in any vibrant pattern -- florals are proving particularly popular in 2012.
