It's Halloween, and to celebrate we bring you some of the best celebrity costumes through the years.

Mermaids, robots and everything in between -- stars are known to celebrate any occasion in style and Halloween, which falls on October 31, sees Hollywood A-listers at their scary best each year.

Granted it's not much of an Indian holiday, but everyone loves a costume party. So here's some inspiration for the next one you attend!

In the following pages are some of the best Halloween get-ups, past and present, seen on famous personalities.

We start off with the voluptuous Kim Kardashian, who never passes up an opportunity to dress dramatically -- or show off her legendary curves.

The reality TV star attended an early Halloween bash in New York a few days ago in this mermaid costume, complete with seashell necklaces and a blonde wig.

Kim seems to have a preference for fairytale beauties -- at a party two years ago, she went in a suitably sexy Red Riding Hood costume.

We're guessing there were plenty of wolves milling about, trying to catch her eye!

German model Heidi Klum has a Hollywood reputation when it comes to Halloween. Not only does she throw a super annual bash to which everybody who's anybody is invited, she pulls out all the stops when it comes to her costume.

Here's a glimpse of the elaborate Cleopatra costume she's set to don this year.

The Egyptian queen outfit is actually rather tame in comparison to some of the other ones Heidi has shown up in over the years.

In 2010, she and soon-to-be-ex husband Seal hosted a Halloween party where they showed up in matching Transformer costumes. The model's robot get-up looked fit for a movie, and dwarfed her metallic muscle spouse.

And here is another of her outlandish choices for the scary holiday back in 2006. The model was pregnant at the time and concealed her growing belly in a large, elaborate 'Eve's apple' costume, complete with serpent.

Joining in the haunted Halloween spirit, former supermodel Padma Lakshmi was spotted in NYC on October 21 this year in a rather witch-y number.

Despite the blue wig and pointed hat, her natural beauty still shone through.

Orlando Bloom's wife and Victoria's Secret Angel Miranda Kerr looked like a million dollars on October 31, 2011 -- she threw a party for which she was kitted out in a hot circus ringmaster outfit, complete with tailcoat, top-hat and whip.

A guest at Miranda's party was playboy hotelier Vikram Chatwal, who ironically enough dressed up as a priest. Now that's make-believe alright!

Dutch bombshell Doutzen Kroes truly was the cat's whiskers at a bash last Halloween -- her sizzling cat costume showed off her amazing figure to perfection.

Singer Fergie offered up an amusing take on toddler beauty pageants in 2011, posing as a winner in a little girl dress, socks and carrying a teddybear. Can't say the outfit is more outlandish than the concept of having children compete in a beauty contest!

So you thought Heidi Klum's Eve's apple outfit was something, complete with artificial serpent?

Meet model Jessica White, who carried a real snake to a party last year, to set off her Arabian snake charmer costume!

We're not sure what Kate Upton's 2011 Halloween look was about -- was she poking fun at skeletal models, or supposed to be a beautiful corpse come alive?

In any case, the striking body paint she had on garnered plenty of eyeballs.

Rapper-actor Ice T and his glamour model wife Coco never pass up a chance to ham it up on Halloween.

In 2010, they attended a do as a crazed doctor and his sexy nurse.

In 2009, Coco's ample assets were on display in a similar manner (like they are on every other day of the year, actually) as the couple stepped out in matching S&M gear.

This photograph on a Halloween red carpet from 2008 is of singer Pink, who turned up a chance to flash the flesh like so many other stars do and opted for a cute clown outfit instead.

Diva Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon were matching angels at an October 31 celebration back in 2009, but we're guessing Mimi had to twist his arm to get him to wear that.

Let's hope they're not matching butterflies this year!

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton was a scream the same year, when he stepped out decked up from head to toe as Lady Gaga. This was one of her most iconic looks in 2009, way before the meat dress.

From Perez we come to Paris Hilton (in case you don't know, his name is a pun on hers).

The tirelessly self-promoting starlet never passes up an opportunity to parade around in skimpy outfits and Halloween of 2005 was no exception -- she stepped out in her underwear plus two ears and a tail.

Can't you guess? Pink (Playboy?) bunny.

Twilight stars Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene celebrated the haunted holiday together in Las Vegas in 2009, but their looks couldn't be more different. Kellan was kitted out as Batman's sidekick Robin and Ashley was a pretty peacock.

And finally we come to the erstwhile Puff Daddy, Sean 'P Diddy' Combs, who rocked out in an elaborate gladiator costume at an NYC party in 2004.
