2. Nikon D3100
Price: Rs 30,000

Before getting into any details, let's see the plus points of this entry level camera.

HD video capture and Live View are an absolute delight to have. And what more can you ask for than a robust built! But well, there is still more: the more-than-glad sensors and processor at a price that makes Nikon D3100 a charming buy.

Nikon D3100 is an upgraded D3000, which in itself was one of the best products of its age. This upgradation came with 14.2 megapixel CMOS sensor, something that would give a run to all other cameras in this segment.

The EXPEED 2 processor delivers the best image quality along with better and wider sensitivity range. Autofocus with continuous subject tracking plus the full HD at 1080p at an fps count of 24 is a heart warmer again.

Price: Rs 35,000

It might be a tad expensive, but all the money spent would be worth it, if this is your choice of DSLR camera.

What impresses the most is the placement of the camera. It is a segment somewhere between the entry level cameras and the highly professional cameras.

Canon 600D paves its way with wireless flash features, full HD recording, LCD display which can change positions, great image quality, and also features that would help an amateur to learn photography. On the flip side, though, is the fact that a person with large hands might find it tough to palm this camera and also the burst rate which is quite low.

4. Sony Alpha A37
Price: Rs 30,000

Well, not to be listed under DSLRs, the company rightly calls it DSLT.

Sony Alpha A37 comes with a single lens translucent mirror technology, which enables quick face detection, along with fast and continuous picture clicking. This whole technology is something new so consumers will take their own sweet time to get adjusted to this.

To start with there is 16.1 million pixel sensor plus Bionz processor, both of which together give an ISO of 100-16,000 sensitivity.

Full HD video recording, 15-point AF system, Quick AF modes, enhanced object tracking, electronic viewfinder with 100 per cent view field, tiltable screen, autoportrait framing, clear zoom technology are few other add-ons.

All this seem all the more desirable at the given price tag.

5. Nikon D5100
Price: Rs 35,000

Another favourite!

Nikon D5100 is one of the best DSLRs to work with while shooting in low light. With many new features added to it, the camera has been made highly versatile. Whatsoever remains is fulfilled by a well-articulated screen.

However, the camera does not give you much control over the parameters of the image to be clicked. Also, the lack of depth in field preview saddens a bit.

16.2 million pixels is a winner, sharing the podium with special effects, much advanced PSAM exposure modes, wide enough articulated LCD screen, scenes modes with full automation, are some of the features that an amateur photographer would need to boost up the images. However, the camera is also well suited for professionals. And yet, the manufacturers tag it at close to Rs 35,000.
