The Lumia 510 comes with impressive performance and an exciting sub-Rs 11,000 price tag.

The Nokia Lumia 610 which used to be the cheapest Windows Phone operating system based smartphone has now been officially beaten by Nokia's new offering -- the Nokia Lumia 510. The Nokia Lumia 510 is a youth-oriented Windows Phone 7.5 OS based smartphone that has been priced below Rs 11,000.

Build upon similar hardware specifications as the Nokia Lumia 610, the new Nokia Lumia 510 comes with optimised Windows Phone 7.5 operating system that enables to run better and in a much fluid way on this phone. The Lumia 510 is thus a perfect device for those who do not wish to spend much for a Windows Phone device but do not want to compromise on the features and functionality.

We got a chance to go hands on with the new Nokia Lumia 510 when it was unveiled in a press conference in New Delhi recently. While the device sounds great and appealing for the masses, here's an account of our brief encounter with the device during its launch ceremony.

The Nokia Lumia 510 comes at an exciting sub-Rs 11,000 price point, which is almost Rs 2,000 cheaper than the Lumia 610. Despite the difference in price, the Lumia 510 carries similar hardware as the Lumia 610 and has a bigger display (4-inch) than the latter too.

But one thing that is a sure shot downer for the device is its puny 4 GB integrated or onboard storage. The device does not have any option to expand the memory either. In fact, out of 4 GB, users get only 2.5 GB to store their multimedia, applications and other files.

The Lumia 510's look and feel is better than other budget smartphones, and Nokia's effort is worthy of applaud. The device comes in exciting colours (red, yellow, cyan, white and black) that come with a matte finish to avoid any smudges and colour fading.

The body of the Lumia 510 has been so made that allows it to keep the colour intact even after wear and tear after a long time of usage. The design of the device is very much based on the design of the Nokia Lumia 610 but only with a bigger display which is most welcome.

The Nokia Lumia 510 comes with a 4-inch display that does some impressive jobs too. The display has a native resolution of 480 X 800 pixels. The most amazing characteristic of this device is its higher pixel density which makes the visuals look crisp and there is hardly any pixilation visible.

The display reproduces bright and vibrant visuals that complement the live tiles or the Metro user interface of the Windows 7.5 Mango as well.

Nokia has included a fun to use online audio streaming application called the Nokia Music and MixRadio offering. Through MixRadio, consumers can stream music directly to the phone, with the ability to listen to personalised radio channels, including offline listening.

Along with that Nokia Drive's updated version with traffic information has also been included in the Lumia 510 as well and will definitely be welcomed by explorers and city drivers.

The device features an 800 MHz application processor along with a 256 MB of RAM to power the Windows Phone Mango 7.5 operating system.

The 256 MB RAM is the bare minimum for the operating system but optimisations on the part of OS and applications has been carried out to keep things fluid.

The device has a 5 megapixel camera capable of recording VGA resolution videos as well, but the front camera is missing in action but no regrets there.

The Nokia Lumia 510 will be launching in the coming few weeks. Airtel has also announced to offer free 500 MB of 3G data for a month with the Lumia 510.

While the device is good, the storage will be the key point in deciding the fate of the device. So stay tuned for a detailed review of the device in the following weeks.
