Get Ahead reader Daya Kaduri on the reasons why iPhone has been a roaring success and the rest, as cliched as this may sound, are yet trying to catch up.
Daya, 27, calls himself a 'so-so' engineer. He has a BTech in mechanical engineering. He is also a 'published author' of Friendship@facebook.com.
Heard an interesting tweet: Apple's marketing strategy -- selling phones in the price range of a laptop, selling laptops in the price of a low prized hatchback and squeezing in the concept of tablet in between all this.
The Apple iPhone is also a phone right? Then how come it smashes records with every new version? The iPhone is not only a phone, or a set of technologies but an institution in itself. Five factors which have contributed towards the success of the Apple iPhone series are mentioned as follows:

1. Aesthetic/ Design aspects
One of the major reasons behind the revolution called iPhone is the aesthetic part. iPhones are artistic, and manage to combine art and beauty like no other phone. Every man has an urge to own something beautiful, and how about a phone which is not only pretty but ticks all the right check boxes with respect to technology?
Also, such is the success of its design that there are at least a dozen copycats using either the design of iPhones or versions of its name, say B-phone, C-phone, whatever.
All in all, iPhones appear as sheer design based poetry.

2. Upward line of technology
Apple works with the slogan -- Upward line of technology as in with time, it will offer a better product, unlike many of its contemporaries, who offer the highs and also the budget series of phones.
Hence, Apple is synonymous with progressive technology. It is a well known fact that, if the geeks buy something, the world will follow so Apple scores all the way.

3. Trendy marketing
The PR and marketing team of Apple Corp has to be commended, for they have always put their products in the view-line of the targeted audience. Apple has always benefited from the hype it creates prior to the release of their products.
Whenever there is a new version of their products hitting the stores, there will be blogs, rumours, articles and a plethora of notes on various social networking sites which try to develop something from the rumours/ announcements.
As of now, there are hundreds of websites which have the word -- iPhone or iPhone 5 in their url.
With iPhone 5 being the darling of the rumour mongers now, there are thousands of bloggers who have used their imagination to sum up the specs of the next generation iPhone.
Yes, no, positive, negative, fake and what not, the bottom line is -- iPhone gets built on a huge canvas.

4. White is the new black
Apple manages to sell a large number of phones in the colour white; this is when other companies experiment mostly in the color black.
A white phone wasn't a good idea, at least prior to 2007, but Apple managed to pull off something sensational. Now, many popular phones are offered in many colours, especially white.
Apple products have generally been synonymous with the colour white, so white is the new black.

5. Steve Jobs
I personally have an opinion that this is the main reason behind the success of Apple's products. The Buddhist who travelled to India to visit Neem Karoli Baba in the 70s commands respect, sheer respect for giving dimensions to an idea.
I have a gut that post Steve Jobs, Samsung will take over as the king-of-the-mobile-market (Samsung Galaxy S2 is a heartening phenomenon), and Apple products would find it slightly difficult to compete with others, unless they come up with something spectacular.
Some holds true, with some different ingredients here-and-there behind the success of iPads and Mac books.
