We had compiled a similar list just two months back and at that time we hardly had 15 names; this time around we had to select from a list of 21.

Indian and Chinese brands are churning out quad core phones like never before.

Now we bring you a list of 21 handsets with quad core processor in which we have not included products of Chinese players as they are yet to sort out their distribution issues. Also, all the quad core phones included in this list are priced under Rs 15000.

Lava Iris 458q (Rs 7,999)

Lava Iris 458q is the cheapest quad core smartphone in the market and is selling for Rs 7,999. It comes with a 1.2 GHz quad core Mediatek processor which is being used on most of the phones in this list and also runs on the latest Android 4.2 Jelly bean operating system. It has a 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen with FWVGA resolution.

Lava Iris 458q has 512 MB RAM and 4 GB internal memory that is expandable up to 32 GB via a micro SD storage card. It has an 8 megapixel rear auto-focus camera with built-in flash and a front VGA camera for 3G video calling. Iris 458q has a 2,000-mAh battery.

The Android 4.2 Jelly Bean based Xolo Q600 features a 4.5-inch TFT FWVGA display with a resolution of 480X854 pixels and a pixel density of 217 ppi. Internally, Xolo Q600 come packed with 512 MB RAM and 4 GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded by up to 32 GB via a micro SD card.

The smartphone comes with a 2,000mAh battery which is claimed to deliver up to 13.4 hours of talk time on 2G network and a standby time of 333 hours.
There is a 5 megapixel rear camera that can also record videos at 30 frames per second and a VGA camera in the front for video chat. It is a dual-SIM smartphone with dual standby. Other connectivity options include 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS.

Xolo Q700 comes with Android Jelly Bean 4.2. It is equipped with a 4.5-inch qHD (540 x 960 pixel) IPS display with One Glass Solution (OGS) technology, which promises better viewing angle, sunlight readability and touch response. Q700 comes with 4 GB of internal storage and 1 GB RAM.

The dual SIM phone has a 5 megapixel rear camera and VGA front camera. The rear camera comes with BSI sensor technology, which promises to deliver clear and crisp pictures even in a low light environment. The rear camera can shoot 720p videos. The phone also comes with a 2400 mAh battery, which is quite big for this size of phone.

With Xolo Q700, the company has introduced a new user interface called Xolo Unlimited with three inbuilt apps called Xolo Switch, Xolo Secure and Xolo Power.

Xolo Switch allows one to create up to four profiles including Kids Mode with distinctive identities for different Lock screens, applications and wallpapers. It allows users to change profiles with a flick and the ability to use the same application with different identities.

For instance, you can have different Facebook or Gmail logins in different profiles without having to log out from one account. The Kids mode looks like an adaptation from Windows Phone 8 operating system.

Xolo Secure, on the other hand, offers enterprise level security to its users with features like complete control by single SMS, remote lock and wipe phone data, cloud backup for SMS and call log, alerts on SIM change and tracking of device location. Xolo Power is a battery backup optimisation app.

Besides, the Xolo Q800 has 3G (up to 21 Mbps speed which is again much higher than almost all other phones from Indian brands), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, Proximity sensor, and Accelerometer. The Xolo smartphone has a 2,100 mAH battery with claimed 16 hours of talk time.

While the phone sounds like the same as Karbonn Titanium S1, it has better camera, battery life and beefed up 3G speeds. Moreover Xolo has traditionally offered better quality than its Indian rivals. However still you have better products with larger display and better camera in the phones like Zopo and Celkon and therefore this phone makes sense only for those looking for a smaller display.

Intex Aqua i-5 has 1 GB RAM and 4 GB of inbuilt memory that is expandable upto 32 GB. The phone is available in white and black colours. Though the phone lacks HD display, it is a well-equipped product with better than average camera resolution and also latest Android operating system.

The phone has 8 megapixel autofocus rear camera, while a 2 megapixel camera is given on front side for video chat.

The display resolution is not the best in Titanium S5 but is within acceptable limits. Also, Qualcomm chipset used in the phone is also not as fast as the Mediatek chipset common in this range as per the benchmark scores.

Swingtel, a Mumbai based mobile and tablet brand, has launched this 4.7-inch display totting Tigertab for Rs 11,900. The phone is powered by 1.2 GHz Mediatek quad core processor (CPU) which is the most common to low cost quad core phones available in India. TigerTab has 1 GB RAM and 4 GB Internal memory.

The Android 4.2 Jelly Bean based dual SIM phone has a 4.7-inch display with modest 800x480p screen resolution. It has a 5 megapixel rear camera, a 1.9 megapixel front camera and a 2,050 mAh battery. For connectivity it has 3G Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS and USB.

Swingtel Tigertab comes in a red metallic finish and comes with two extra covers in grey and white. The phone is already available across several online retail sites.

However the pricing of the phone is on the higher side, given that it gets slightly small display, lower resolution display and camera compared to most phones in this price range. You can even buy Micromax Canvas HD A116 for about Rs 700 extra.

We have used Pinnacle (the dual core version) and that is impressive with its display and battery life and therefore we inclined to believe that this phone too will not disappoint.

Videocon A55HD has an 8 megapixel autofocus camera at the back and a 3.2 megapixel unit in front. The phone runs on a 2000 mAh battery. Apart from that the phone supports regular connectivity options like 3G (speeds of up to 42 Mbps). Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS/A-GPS are also there in the phone.
