A recently published survey by magazine Careers360 has revealed that IIM-Bangalore tops the list of b-school rankings in the country. Read on.
A survey on business schools in India conducted by an expert team at Careers360 magazine has revealed that the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore leads the list of schools in the country, closely followed by IIM-Lucknow and Department of Management Studies, IIT-Delhi at second and third positions respectively.
While 88 schools participated in the survey, each of them had to fill up a questionnaire which required them to share information on 18 parameters that further led the team arrive at the rankings.
The 18 parameters were carefully divided into Input, Process and Output. The parameters comprised student diversity, residential programme intake, percentile cut off, quality of faculty, accreditation, average domestic salary offered etc to name a few.
The careers360 team later verified the facts submitted by the schools before arriving at the top 100 list of business schools in India for the year 2012.

1. IIM-Bangalore
Image: IIM-BangaloreOn first place is Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore.
Established in the year 1973, IIM-Bangalore is considered among the best business schools in the country, known for its research facilities and has an excellent team of faculty members and department heads.
2. IIM-Lucknow
Image: IIM-LucknowOn second position is Indian Institute of Management-Lucknow.
Established in the year 1984, IIM-L has a 185-acre campus and annually enrolls well over 700 students through its various post graduate programmes.
3. Department of Management Studies, IIT-Delhi
On third place is Department of Management Studies, IIT-Delhi.
Although the post graduate management education in IIT began as early as 1976, it acquired the statutory status of 'Department Management Studies' under the IIT Delhi Act in 1993, following which the formal MBA programme commenced 1997.
4. IIM-Calcutta

IIM-C was established in the year 1961 as the first Indian Institute of Management in the country.
An institute par excellence, the institute is known for its extensive facilities and activities in the field of research and consultancy.
5. IIT-Madras, Department of Management Studies
Image: IIT-MadrasOn fifth place is Department of Management Studies (DoMS), Indian Institute of Technology-Madras.
The DoMS was started in the year 2004 to offer management education to students which commenced in 2001.
The management wing offers post graduate programmes at the Masters' (MS) and Doctoral (Ph D) levels, besides an MS (Entrepreneurship) programme.
6. NITIE, Mumbai
Image: NITIE, MumbaiOn sixth place is National Institute of Industrial Engineering, Mumbai.
It was started in the year 1963 to offer industrial and technical education to students.
The institute is spread over 67 acres of land and offers a wide range of student-friendly education programmes at both post-graduate and doctoral level.
7. Indian Institute of Foreign Trade- Delhi

IIFT was started in 1963 by the Government of India to professionalise the study of foreign trade management and its various facets and thereby facilitate better trade relations with neighbouring nations.
Admission to IIFT is based on the students' performance in the IIFT entrance exam.
8. VGSOM, IIT-Kharagpur

VGSoM was established in the year 1993 as the first management school to be set up within the IIT system, a decision initiated by Vinod Gupta, a distinguished alumnus of the IIT-K.
9. DoMS, IIT-Roorkee

The DoMS was established in the year 1998 with a vision to impart high quality formal education in management science.
Currently, it also offers a dual degree MBA programme which allows you to choose any two specialisations between Marketing, Finance, Information Technology, Operations and Human Resource Management.
10. IIM-Kozhikode

IIM-Kozhikode was established in the year 1996 and in 2003, it moved to its current campus in Kunnamangalam in Kerala.
Interestingly, IIM-Kozhikode is the first Asian institute to offer a distance learning programme in management for working executives. The programme is called Interactive Distance Learning.
The institute currently has an enrollment of about 650 graduate students and 15 doctoral students.
11. SJMSom, IIT-Bombay

SJMSOM was established in 1995 to cater to students from technological backgrounds who had an inclination towards business management.
In the year 2000, the school was renamed to Shailesh J Mehta School of Management, to honour the contributions of Dr. Shailesh J Mehta, a distinguished alumnus of IIT Bombay who greatly contributed to the development of the school.
12. IIM-Indore

Established in 1998, it is known to have the largest campus in the country among all the IIMs -- an area of 193 acres.
The institute offers a conducive learning environment and believes in imparting experimental education to its students.
13. DIME, IIT-Kanpur

DIME was established in the year 1974, as one of the first institutes in the country that will identify and train engineers with the skills of management education.
The department currently offers MBA programmes in Finance, Marketing, Operations, IT and Systems.
14. FMS, Delhi

FMS was established in 1954 under the University of Delhi to offer management education to students.
It boasts of being the first business school in India to have started the full time MBA programme.
15. MANAGE, Hyderabad

MANAGE was established as an autonomous institute in the year 1987 by the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India.
It currently offers management programmes in five specialities, namely Consultancy, Management Training, Management Education, Research and Information, Documentation and Dissemination
16. JBIMS, Mumbai

Established in 1981, JBIMS is also known as Mumbai University's Department of Management Studies in Mumbai.

17. Motilal Nehru Institute of Technology, Allahabad

MNNIT, formerly known as Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College(MNREC) was established in 1961 as a centre of technical education in Allahabad.

18. Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad

19. NIT Trichy

Established in 1964, the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (NITT) was formerly known as the Regional Engineering College (REC).
It has an academic staff of 246 members, and has an annual enrollment of about 3500 students in its undergraduate and post graduate programmes.
20. SIMREE, Mumbai

It was founded in the year 1983 by the Government of Maharashtra with an aim to provide business education and research opportunities to students and scholars.
The institute is also known to develop and train entrepreneurship skills in students.
