Launched in 2007, the Manmohan Singh scholarship awards £ 35,000 per student to study PhD and MPhil degrees in science, technology, economics and social sciences.
What
St John's College, a leading college of the University of Cambridge, is inviting applications from meritorious students for this year's prestigious 'Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarships'.
The programme was first launched at the Prime Minister's residence in Delhi in 2007.
St John's College, where Dr Singh studied economics in the late 1950s, will award £ 35,000 scholarships to each PhD student for up to three years.
Three scholarships are already planned for the year 2013-14.
The scholarship would be based on merit through a special test, in order to ensure maximum effectiveness.
Large organisations like the BP Foundation have agreed to sponsor this scholarship this year. Rolls-Royce India and Tata and Sons have sponsored this scholarship in the past.
The British Council administers the scholarship programme.
A selection committee, comprising an appropriate nominee from each sponsor and a panel of academics and others selected by the college will be set up in India to make recommendations to the college regarding the profile of applicants.
Who can apply
The scholarship programme has been set up exclusively for Indian students and currently based in India for PhD and MPhil degrees at St John's College in areas such as science and technology, economics and social sciences.

NIIT, one of Asia's largest IT trainers, has launched the Graduate Employability Test (GET) -- to enable graduates to evaluate their job-readiness and get career consultation based on their test scores.
GET comprises a 100-minute objective type examination and aims to assess functional abilities and behavioural traits that make up I.T. aptitude. The test will assess students on the parameters of Problem Solving, Logical ability, Numerical Ability, Verbal Ability, Result Orientation and Teamwork.
Every student undergoing the test will receive a personalised graduate employability scorecard.
GET test takers will get special fee waivers on accelerated, placement-backed Diploma programmes offered by NIIT and a complimentary entry to NIIT's exclusive mega job fair in early 2013.
Candidates will also get to be a part of different Employability Seminars conducted by industry professionals.
The assessment is expected to be of particular benefit to graduate students as they will get IT career consultation to assess their capabilities.
The candidates are also entitled for Windows 8 First Steps course after completing the test successfully.

Graduates in any stream can register for the test.
How to apply
The application forms for the test are available at NIIT centres across the country. Graduates can register for the NIIT GET by filling the application form and paying the application fee of Rs 299.

Important dates
The last date for receipt of applications is December 8, 2012.
GET 2012 will be conducted nationwide on December 9, 2012.
The results will be announced on December 11, 2012.
