In an online chat with readers on January 10, Jitendra Sinha, CEO, Gateforum addressed queries on how to crack the GATE and offered advice on the scope of career after scoring in the exam.
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) taken by science and engineering graduates in the country is a prerequisite for admission to post graduate programmes in Engineering and Science at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology and other engineering colleges in India.
The exam is scheduled to be held on January 20, 2013 this year.

Jitendra Sinha answers, at 2013-01-10 15:56:22Yes, if you are a masters student in Science or AMIE or MCA.

Jitendra Sinha answers, Please be more specific and clear when you are asking questions. Mention your stream and where you want to apply as well.
UNU asked, what are the strategy to clear GATE in life science
Jitendra Sinha answers, You could focus on Engineering Maths and Aptitude sections as they constitute 30% of the marks. Strengthen concepts since GATE is a test of application of concepts. Solving previous GATE papers and taking tests at this time will help.
Sumit asked, How are the placements post M. Tech in NIT's?
Jitendra Sinha answers, In NITs like Warangal, Trichy, Calicut, Surathkal it is good - with a CTC of 5-6lakhs. In the other NITs departments like CS, EC, EE and ME should not have any problems.
tib asked, How to score more marks in CSE gate which is the standard material effective for CSE GATE
Jitendra Sinha answers, Focus on important subjects - Data Structures, TOC, Computer Networks. Mathematics and GA will have 30% of marks and you could practice on that as well.

Jitendra Sinha answers, With a rank of 1000, you should be able to get into one of the IITs.
Ramesh Chandran asked, I'm in my Pre - final engineering( Mech) and my fundamentals are weak. Should I go for GATE? Please advice?
Jitendra Sinha answers, You have a lot of time to prepare for GATE. With weak fundamentals,it will be difficult to crack GATE. You have time to work on the basics. Will advice you work with the time available to improve basics. You could take up assistance in terms of Correspondence Courses and even Classroom coaching to have guided preparation.
Prashant asked, Which of the later IIT's are preferred for an M.Tech in Computer Science?
Jitendra Sinha answers, IIT Hyderabad is good. Very few of the newer IITs have MTech options.

Jitendra Sinha answers, You could pursue MSc and then give GATE, through which you will be able to pursue MS/ME. Otherwise you can appear in JAM and pursue your MSc in any IIT.

Jitendra Sinha answers, GATE Score can be used for integrated PhD after BE, but this is not mandatory in IITs.
