From entry-level commuters to super sports bikes, India saw an awesome line up of two-wheelers catering to all bike segments.

The year 2013 has been a great year for the Indian bike market. Global manufacturers like Yamaha, Honda and Kawasaki took India's motorcycle market to the next level, supported by higher demand for powerful superbikes as well as more powerful commuter bikes.

Cutting across various segments, we bring you the most considerable launches of the year 2013. These bike fall in the segments like 100-110cc commuter, automatic scooter, entry level performance bikes and superbikes.

100-110cc commuter bikes

Mahindra Centuro

Mahindra Centuro is a futuristic two-wheeler because of some unique equipment that it offers. On July 1, 2013, the bike was launched with some features like digital instrument cluster with distance to empty meter, find me lamps, micro chip ignited-5 curve engine, remote flip key with key light and anti-theft alarm.

These features are usually not available in bikes in the same segment. The design of the motorcycle is much different from the other commuters seen on the streets. The company claims that this two-wheeler returns a mileage of 85.4kmpl and comes with a 5-year warranty.

Bajaj Discover 100M

On October 15, 2013, Bajaj introduced Discover 100M with a little tuning in to the same 102cc-mill. The company introduced the bike with a tag line 'Mileage ka naya Satya'. This time, the company reduced the torque and power output and emphasised more on the fuel consumption of this machine. This made it the top mileage delivery bike offering a fuel efficiency of 84kmpl, with the top power of 9.2bhp and 9.02Nm peak torque.

The bike costs lesser than the 100T and has been offered with 200mm petal disc brake option. With almost the same appearance, both the Discovers are making a huge positive difference in the sales report of the company.

Honda Dream Yuga Limited Edition

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India after becoming a single entity in the Indian bike market has stabilised itself with its upright products and outlook. The bike maker has launched a limited edition of its highly competitive commuter bike on September 4, 2013, christened Honda Dream Yuga Limited Edition.

This is a special variant of Dream Yuga which has won awards like Compact Bike of the year (Car and Bike India Awards), Motorcycle of the year up to 115cc (NDTV Car and Bike Awards, 2013) and many more.

This machine is a 110cc commuter bike offering a fine mileage of 74kmpl. This bike has also been awarded with India Design Mark in 2013 for its appearance.

Bajaj Discover 100T

Bajaj knows about people's choices and preference; this became even more evident when the company launched its new Discover model, Bajaj Discover 100T on January 7, 2013. This machine was way better than the other commuter motorcycles in terms of looks and performance.

The bike was loaded with a 102cc, 4-Valve, DTS-i engine mated with a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox, which is rare to find in an entry level commuter.

The mill is also tuned to churn out increased power of up to 10bhp and 9.2Nm of peak torque. To make it more precious and appealing, Bajaj designed it with a very sporty look and masculine fuel tank.

After a commendable response to this machine, the company launched another entry level bike, Bajaj Discover 100M.

Automatic scooters

TVS Jupiter

Scooters have received a great response in the country; they have also been a profitable investment for the two-wheeler manufacturers. TVS motors launched another unisex scooter (after TVS Wego) TVS Jupiter on September 16, 2013.

This scooter comes with a 109.7cc, 4-stroke, single cylinder, air cooled, OHC engine mated to a Primary CVT & Secondary Gear Box. The engine generates a maximum power output of 7.88bhp at 7500rpm along with a top torque of 8Nm at 5500rpm.

The mileage delivered by the scooter's mill stands at 62kmpl. The design of this gear-free two-wheeler is quite fascinating and it comes loaded with exciting features like econometer, pass-by switch, largest (12-inch) tubeless tyres in the segment, front telescopic forks, retractable bag hooks, external fuel fill, twin extra pilot lamps, LED tail lamp, accessible kick start etc.

Yamaha Ray Z

On May 24, 2013, Yamaha launched a male-specific, modified version of Yamaha Ray, which was named as Yamaha Ray Z. Due to the low interest of men in the old Ray, the company made Ray Z more muscular and appealing by applying racing graphics to it and using features like rear wing grab bars and new paint scheme with all black theme.

This scooter features a 113cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC engine. The mill produces a maximum power of 7.1Ps and a peak torque of 8.1Nm.

Entry level performance bikes

Royal Enfield Continental GT 535

Launched on November 25, 2013, Royal Enfield Continental GT 535 is a new generation model of Royal Enfield Continental GT 250 launched in 1965. The GT 535 is an entry level performance motorcycle designed with great power and incredible performance.

There is a 535cc, single cylinder engine which is tuned to generate a maximum power output of 29.1bhp and maximum torque of 44Nm. The look of the machine is inspired by the legendary motorbike from the company.

Recently, the bike has been awarded with the title of Indian Motorcycle Of The Year (IMOTY).

KTM Duke 390

KTM introduced another naked beast, KTM Duke 390 in the Indian bike market on June 25, 2013. This is another orange monster after the launch of Duke 200. With a 373cc engine, this bike is able to crank the topmost power of 44bhp, which makes it more aggressive. KTM has presented this model with two variants, one of which comes with anti-lock brake system. Recently, it has been honoured at the Bloomberg Awards as Indian Bike of the Year.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R and ZX-14R

The bikes were launched in India on September 4, 2013. These super-sportsbikes from Kawasaki are designed to thrill the riders. Both these models are loaded with very powerful mills.

In fact, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R has the most powerful mill in the world, which is a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC, four valve per cylinder, inline-four cylinder engine which has the displacement of 1441cc.

ZX-10R comes fitted with a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke in-line four cylinder engine with 998cc displacement. These machines are highly fascinating because of their irresistible design and unmatched power.
