While there are cosmetic as well as technical updates, Hero MotoCorp has not made any major changes in the prices of the new Hero Karizma R and Karizma ZMR
The world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp Limited, has launched the 2014 Karizma and Karizma ZMR with lots of technical and cosmetic updates. While the bikes get a whole new look it is accompanied with better performance due to advanced tuning of the old power mill.
Let's check out what's new in the updated Hero Karizma R and ZMR.
Superbike inspired front fairing and headlamps
Both the 2014 models of the bikes receive a more sporty, superbike-inspired front fairing with dual dynamic headlamps and LED positioning lamps.
They also get sharp, integrated turn signal lamps below the positioning lamps.
A large wind protection shield has been provided above the headlamps, to provide a racing sport-ride experience.
Identical from the front, the bikes look different from the sides due to their semi and fully faired styling.
Hero Karizma comes with the front fairing extended to the fuel tank, while Hero Karizma ZMR gets full body covered with the front fairing extended to the bottom engine cowl.
Rear cowl and tail lamp are sportier now
Rear cowl of the new Hero Karizma and Karizma ZMR is sportier now due to a straight stroke design ending with a sharp tip. The bikes also get LED tail lamp and sporty rear winkers, which further enhances the sportiness of these duo.
More stylish seats and rear grab rails
The dual stage, single seat of Hero Karizma R and Karizma ZMR has been replaced with split pattern type seats to enhance the sport-ride experience of the bike.
A stylish split rear grab rail also replaces the single aluminium rail in the bike, which better gels with the overall styling.
Not much has changes with handlebars and console
The company has not tweaked the handle bars and consoles of the bikes.
2014 Hero Karizma ZMR gets the same clip-on handlebars as well as the fully digital instrument console.
However, now it gets two extra features: side-stand indicator and real time mileage indicator.
The single piece handlebar of the Karizma R has been replaced with a clip-on type one, which is similar to the ZMR version. The company has continued the digital-analog type multi-functional console in the bike, however, added with a side-stand warning light.
Old mill with advanced tuning
The bikes to sport the 223cc, 4-stroke, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine, mated with a 5-speed gearbox. Thanks to the advanced tuning, which results in increased power and torque figures using the same engine.
The carburetted engine in the 2014 Hero Karizma delivers 19.2bhp at 7,500rpm of maximum power along with a peak torque of 19.35Nm at 6,000rpm, against the 17.2bhp and 18.35Nm of the older version.
The 2014 Hero Karizma ZMR churns out a top power of 20bhp at 8,000rpm and extreme torque of 19.7Nm at 6,500rpm using the programmed fuel injection (PGM-FI) and oil cooler technologies.
The performance shows an increment of 2.2bhp in power and 1.35Nm in torque figures.
Not much suspense in the suspensions
Hero has not made any change in the suspension systems of the bikes. The 2014 Karizma uses the telescopic forks at the front and spring loaded, 5-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear with aluminium swing-arm.
2014 Karizma ZMR gets the same telescopic forks at the front, while advance GRS shocks at the rear.
Brakes for limit breaking performance
The new machines have better performance, capable to break the limits, thus it needs a powerful braking system.
2014 Hero Karizma ZMR comes with 276mm front and 240mm rear disc braking systems, which provides a highly efficient braking effort to handle the powerful machine.
Being a little stripped-down version, 2014 Hero Karizma gets a similar unit at the front, while a 130mm drum braking system at the rear wheel, is also quite sufficient for the bike.
Wider wheels and tyres means better grip and traction
The new Hero Karizma and Karizma ZMR comes with wide tubeless rear tyre for better grip and traction.
Both the models get 18mm x 1.85mm and 18mm x 2.75mm DIE Cast Wheels at the front and the rear respectively. The front wheel gets a 80/100 R18-47P tubeless tyre, while the rear gets wider 120/80 R18-62P tubeless tyre.
Sporty colours
Colour options are not limited for the 2014 Hero Karizma and it's available in 5 sporty colour options: Red, Black, White, Yellow and Grey. The new Hero Karizma ZMR gets lesser option in colours: Red, Black and White, which are common to the R version.
New machines old prices
The company has not made any major changes in the prices of the new Hero Karizma and Karizma ZMR, and the bikes are priced at Rs Rs 85,559 and Rs 107,000 (ex-showroom Mumbai) respectively.
